Gil Scott Heron is my favorite African American artist and has had an enormous positive impact on my life. Home Is Where The Hatred Is is one of the greatest songs ever if you ask me.
This is class! Plus i was born on this day and this year! Woohoo. Grew up to become a big HipHop fan. Respect goes to those who were there in the early days! Pure school!
I met her at a Battle Of The Year event in Germany about 20 years ago. Very cool, down to earth, and knowledgeable. I purchased her book and she signed it for me.
Yo tenia solo 12 años! Pero ya me ponian a bailar con mi hermana "thats the way" de kc, solo reconozco a Elthon john y Divine saludandose, alguien reconoce alguien mas?
THIS IS HIPHOP...SO I ASK, WHY ARENT THEY BREAK DANCING OR HIPHOPPING AROUND TO....RAP MUSIC? YOU HAVE BEEN LIED TO. PUERTO RICANS CREATED THE HIP HOP CULTURE
@@echa_caldo IM NOT PUERTO RICAN. I GREW UP IN THE BLACK COMMUNITY. WE WERE EITHER IN THE CHURCH, SINGING, RAPPING, LISTENING TO R&B, FUNK, SOUL, POP, SOMETIMES RAP MUSIC. PUERTO RICANS WERE WAY MUCH POOR AND UNFORTUNATE THAN BLACK AMERICANS. THIS LED PUERTO RICAN CHILDREN TO CREATE THE HIPHOP CULTURE. IN AWAY, BLACK PEOPLE WERE CULTURE VULTURES, WHEN IT CAME TO THE HIPHOP CULTURE.
Fascinating footage. The tail end of the 70's. The last days of disco. During this time in the Bronx, hip-hop was in it's infancy. Created by the poor people who were barred from places like Studio 54. What a time capsule. Great video!
In those days every D.J., M.C., B-BOY, BEATBOXER and GRAFF artist sought out a platform for their respective talent. MARTHA COOPER helped provide that for many who sought that little bit of recognition. Pre-internet and social media to boot. She definitely deserves to be acknowledged for her wonderful contribution
I was born in 85. But this is awesome and I became a breaker in 2001 after watching beat street! This is special to me. Thank you! Never forget where breakin came from!
too bad that the crowed changed interest, . . .but them were the days when we were called street thugs n gangsters simply for wanting to dance and because our clothing outfits included white, grey and black colors.
