I've never flown an airplane in my life, I only played with flight simulators. The moment I saw you had no airspeed and no altitude display, my mind said "pitot heat". I guess flight sims really do help 😂
Gotten lazy! Videos take a long time to edit. I enjoyed doing that earlier, but lately haven’t been motivated to do more. Thanks for asking though. May motivate me to do more.
Notice the synthetic vision is almost dead-on the runway center line as well. Trust the synthetic vision. that's your view when there is zero visibility and it should not be shared with a map
The most beautiful runway I have ever seen! LOL Thankyou for sharing your experience. It will go a long way! I've heard it said; You have to learn from the mistakes of others. You can't possibly live long enough to make them all yourself.
thanks for sharing this... I was feeling your pain when the alarm went off. As a pilot even just watching I immediately looked at the instrument and saw that bank.... yipes! I bet you were relieved to have that alarm stop! I bet many pilots have made mistakes like this. One thing I had to promise my wife when I started flying was this... If I ever say I think I can make it... then I turn around knowing safety trumps schedule.
Thank you so much for sharing. I was feeling stressed just watching this. So glad you arrived safely and thank you so much for sharing something that could happen to anyone.
My takeaways: When on a VFR flight and encountering IMC, do a 180 and fly out of it. If you're instrument rated, make sure you get frequent IPCs and stay IFR current (I bet you're not). Inadvertent flight into IMC has killed many instrument RATED (but maybe not CURRENT) pilots. Always file a flight plan even when flying VFR so ATC at least knows who you are and where you're going - Foreflight makes this so easy it's stupid not to do it (just remember to activate and close your VFR flight plan).
thanks for sharing , i'm a retired pilot and all through my career i always thought when i heard of something like this is , this can happen to anyone , not i would never do that .. thanks again .
Seems to me you were rusty on your IFR flying + not expecting / not in the IFR mindset The minute it started to drop out and you had to change your rules, you became shaky and unsure Happens to all of us Thanks for sharing and safe flying
Regardless of where you normally fly at always have your heaters on. Low temps can be experienced at different altitudes. Praise be to Allah there was no accident.
I am captain on a heavy. I take my hat off to you for sharing this. At first it is easy to think «no big deal». But I am in the simulator training these things all the time. Yes, you were overloaded. Yes, you lost focus on you horizon there for a minute. But you regained control. And at the end you even had capacity to switch the pito heat on. It is so good of you to share this. We all do mistakes. Learning from them is so valuable.
thanks for sharing, A&P and private pilot here looking to build a RV10or RV12 with 3 boys that are mechanics also. . that panel is absolutely beautiful! will be following and watching your page thanks for the great story and advice.
I'm getting nervous just watching this video, and I'm not even in the cockpit myself. I already had a lot of respect for weather conditions, only increased after watching your video. Thanks for sharing.
Honestly it is stupid that when you have a error like „no plausible Signal“ because of a frozen Pitot Tube, that there is no Diagnostic function available like OBD2 in a car would show: „ERROR: Pitot Tube Signal implausible Possible Cause: Icing, Sensor fault.. Possible Solution: Heating, turn off/on..“ With all these Touchscreens and computers it should be easy And thank you for posting this, you very well have saved lives!
That's an awesome video for a learning experience and to show the kind of stress you can be put under when hit with the unexpected. Thanks for sharing.
I think so many pilots get themselves into unnecessary situations simply because they are afraid to contact air traffic control and "bother them." When he apologizes to air traffic control and they respond with "that's our job", that's a moment that every pilot should keep in the back of their heads. In the end, air traffic control would much rather pull you out of the clouds than pull you out of the woods.
My congratulations om being si brave and posting this video that shows you as the worst pilot i have ever seen. If yo keep flying this way you are going to be dead soon, i sincerily hope this does not happen and you may survive PS I am a flight instructor with 4.000 hours and more than 60 pilots formed (all alive by the way?
We human beings are TERRIBLE at risk management, and it seems that flying an airplane is ALL about risk management in pressure situations, the WORST combination. Sadly, most people won't accept/learn lessons concerning risk management (myself included, probably). This guy did. Retrospectively, he realized that he had "get-there-itus". He also didn't lose his mind when his instruments started acting up. Good on you, man.
