I'll say what I always say when Byfuglien's name comes up... There have been better players who have retired since him, even a few HoFers, but I'm hard pressed to name a single player that retired since Big Buff that I miss more. He was that freaking unique.
Ive met Jarome several times, a good friend of mine has been friends with him since his Kamloops days. Super nice guy. Seeing Tij playing here in Kelowna has been great. Jarome and Kara have raised some fine children.
@beyond_thebench yes agreed... Those hits were every game. It wasn't the fights which I think is whatbthe NHL argues. Also, Shanahan, Tucker, Verbeek, Cicerelli also fought we don't see the issues with players that also scored. It is Enforcers and the majority suffered from substance abuse.. There's a lot we still do not understand
Idk man these players now days know the dangers. If you love the game and want a cup you know what you gotta do and you get paid to do it sooo while tragic and sad you can’t make an omelette without cracking a few eggs.
@@faysamcface7872 specifically for viewing, I would want to watch the most talented players in that hypothetical ruleset. I'm not your buddy, guy. Productive comment tho 👍
If I'm not mistaken, Jarome Iginla, who is of mixed race, was the first black athlete to win a gold medal at the Winter Olympics. With all his NHL accolades, his World Jr Gold and tourney MVP, his, in conjunction with Sidney Crosby's OT heroics in Vancouver in 2010, etcetera, it will take some doing for any 'IGGY' progeny to eclipse what their father achieved. . Speaking of father-son comparisons, some say, 'The Golden Brett' (Brett Hull) eclipsed father Bobby. It's close, but I disagree. Without bothering to look anything up, if you add Bobby Hull 's, Gordie Howe's, and Wayne Gretzky's NHL and WHA scoring totals, although Wayne still leads, they're reasonably close. I'm an old dog, who saw all of the above play. Hull SR was a far better skater, and had a harder shot than his son. To be fair, Brett Hull, who had the luxury of playing alongside Adam Oates, had the deadliest one-timer in NHL history. Man, could he snipe! Again it's close, but I'd have to give the edge (We're talking strictly hockey prowess here) to 'The Golden Jet'. PEACE OUT
Ratings are down since they moved to keep fighting out. Hockey is already the least popular sport in North America. We don't need it to become less popular. Bring back old time hockey. Players are adults who can make their own decisions about their health. They're not children who need to be "protected from themselves". From a basic business perspective, hockey with fighting makes more money than hockey without fighting. Stop pussifying our beloved game.
I wouldnt say there has been moves to specially eliminate fighting in the NHL? Rule changes that benefit a faster and more skilled game for sure. If they wanted to eliminate fighting, they straight up would. Everyone can agree there is a place for fighting in the NHL and that cant change ever. Its what makes our game the best!
Ratings have been down in the last decade or so ya. But that can also be attributed to poor TV deals. This season was a record year for ratings actually. The push on TNT definitely helped with that tho. www.sportsvideo.org/2024/04/23/ratings-roundup-nhl-hits-record-high-viewership-and-fan-engagement-in-decades/
Most of the blame for the recent deaths in the last decade or so is on fighting…look at the players. CTE or not, the psychological effects are evident. I love fighting like the rest of hockey fans. Simply stating that there needs or needed to be better resources for those players.
you're narration is all over the place man, good lord...nhl fighting has been around decades..The Casuals will catch up and i hope you lead the way for them! we'll be here next time. 2024 NYR is most complete team..best enforcer in REMPE...best goalie n league...best teammates able to combine scoring...the hurricanes will get sent packing next game, & the NYR win 2024 CUP. - guy from the future
GB is so inept, i guarantee you that he will bring the NHL back to Atlanta, a market that failed in the 70’s and in the 21st century, sometime in the next ten years
Same thing All these sons of X nhl players making it is beyond gross!! Only a small % of players make it on actual talent these days the rest by name or daddy’s money 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
@@AscendedXSaiyanvery few on talent Majority on daddy’s money And in these cases on daddy’s name I don’t think you know how hockey works there bud I grew up with super talented players who could skate circles around most We just grew up on the wrong side of the tracks !
@@Man-oq6pf Oh I know how hockey works. It's too expensive for everyone to play, you'd have to have deep pockets, or connections to play at high levels. Although there's quite a few who come from families that are currently in the NHL, who have *BOTH* the talent to actually be there, as well as the familial support
The best thing about the NHL draft will be seeing the Calgary Flames select Tij Iginla and Jerome on stage presenting him his jersey with Connie!! Let's Go!!
Jerome Iginla was one of my favorite players. He could score goals, make passes, fight (and do very well at it), and he always seemed to have a great attitude. In my mind, he personified what a leader and team Captain should be. Very cool to see his kids following in his footsteps!
