Belck’s all over the changes, great lines, really nice sound… a really solid player. Surprised that this version of the 1 O’clock band was a bit ragged. Hard to believe the academics are still trying to “conduct” big bands. Just a touch comical. Start them off, let go, and get out of their way. They know what to do, or they should, at least. They’d probably sound better without someone in their face trying to control the situation.
As I'm looking at the video I'm enjoying it completely, so I was about to give it a thumbs up and noticed that it was already lit up which meant that I had already given it a thumbs up -- I didn't remember. As I scanned down the comments I see that I saw this video 4 years ago and enjoyed it then as well.
There is a transcription of this work that was made into a solo, with a single trumpet player with a piano or band accompaniment. The sustained phrases can not be played by a single trumpet player. However, the trumpet solo is quite difficult to perform. I did play this solo version with a piano player accompaniment, and I took the first prize in an instrumental solo competition.
