If you put in the work with your kids they don't turn on you. Instead of hitting them, instead of trying to be their friend, be a parent. Take the time to mentor and lead them. You get out what you put in.
Some of these kids need a lickin'. British born Afro/Caribbean parents have gone soft. I've seen some of these kids being so renk and feisty to their parents, it's left me speechless. What these soft parents fail to realise is, if their kids flagrantly disrespect them over and over, then them kids ain't gonna have no kind of respect for anyone else in society, and that may lead them down a very dark path. Don't get me wrong, I don't think every kid needs physical discipline, but, all of the bad breed pickni dem need it.

@@MrPragmatism "you have a level of influence that nobody can take away from you" --- The environment has a lot to say about what strategy should be used. --- If you live in a uniform environment, meaning the community pretty much believes in the same thing, then I agree that a softer approach may be all that is needed, because the "village" is reinforcing the same beliefs. --- Now, we live in mixed environments, meaning children are being exposed to so many competing beliefs. ---- Consequently, when you are at work for 8 to 16 hours per day and not able to supervise your child, the only thing that could keep your child safe could be that healthy level of fear you instilled in It, that makes It pause and consider Its decisions.
