Hey Preeti! I’m Jyotsnaa from Malaysia. I’m currently in my 4th year mbbs and I’m planning to do my medical electives at Cambridge. I’m in the process of applying to it.. just wanted to ask you, do you know how many students do they usually accept from abroad for the elective placement? I’m kinda worried haha as my results aren’t that great but i’m not sure.. anyways, hoping I can get more info from you! Thank you 😊

Hi, I'm currently in year 11 choosing my A-level options and I'm really struggling between choosing 3 or 4 A-Levels. I'm definitely going to take Biology, Chemistry and Maths because I enjoy the subjects and they're good choices for Medicine. However, though I know Cambridge doesn't explicitly require 4 A-levels, I know you will be considered more if you do 4. I'm considering doing the same A-levels as you did - Bio, Chem, Maths and Physics - but I don't know whether I will enjoy it (because of the workload rather than disliking Physics, I actually really enjoy it). I'm not an extremely fast learner at Maths but I understand it after a lot of hard work - I currently do FMSQ Additional Maths on top of my higher GCSE and am not doing too badly. But I'm also worried that not taking further maths will make Physics A-Level quite difficult for me. You said you got an offer for 3 A-levels from Cambridge and they almost disregarded the 4th, do you think the fact that you were taking 4 in year 12 made them consider you more even though you dropped it at AS? I'm sorry for the long comment but if you could reply, your advice would be really helpful to me. Thank you :)
@stygry7526
@stygry7526 Год назад
they honestly don’t care about 4, in fact they’ll make your offer harder to make sure that you don’t drop the 4th subject if you get an offer, so stick to 3 and get the best grades you can
@dedbread1134
@dedbread1134 Год назад
@@stygry7526 But statistically, more applicants take 4 A-levels so my application would seem less competitive, wouldn't it?
@stygry7526

GPA and testing should be considered discriminatory. Not all people have the ability to get an education until college due to the reality that not everyone came from a supportive environment.
@diyaraodrona4281
@diyaraodrona4281 9 месяцев назад
I think the reason for gpa and testing are to make sure that a student is adequately prepared to take college level courses, and has the foundation to thrive at the colleges they apply to. I agree that the US standardized testing and grading systems are unfair, and often catered towards the privileged, but I also think that they are an objective (or at least the most objective of all of the factors in college admissions) way to make sure a student is going to be able to succeed in the college. If a student's GPA and testing reflect severe gaps in learning and education, that might be a sign that college is not the path for them at that particular moment (and not going to college/ not pursuing higher education right away shouldn't be stigmatized- everyone's journey and goals are different ofc). So I think that there are definitely issues that need to be addressed in the US education system, but I don't think that means we should eliminate GPA and testing metrics altogether.

@PreetiJulian 2 года назад
Hi there thanks for your question! I hope you are well! Sorry for the late reply. Just to let you know I am an introvert too. Honestly I was so shy in high school, my Chemistry teacher suggested I needed to work a job in retail to get confidence for interviews. I didn't end up doing this but it was a good idea. I think the key thing for you would be to do interview practice with your family and friends. Get comfortable answering the questions. To be honest I am sure you are a kind and friendly person so just be yourself! Believe in yourself. Good luck!

Hi Preeti! I'm 15 and I've done 2 IGCSEs and plan on doing another 3. I've had a 6 in Business and I'm expecting a relatively low score in Chemistry (unfortunately). My situation is that I'm Home Educated and I self study pretty much everything. I know that A Levels are more important that the GCSEs, but I still don't know if I can get good enough grades for Cambridge. Do you have any tips? We also think I have undiagnosed ADHD which is affecting my concentration hugely, but my health care provider won't let me get a diagnosis. It's very scary walking this path alone, when everyone says it's the most important thing you could do that decides the rest of your life. Some advice would be greatly appreciated <3

Hi there Talulah! Thanks for your question! I hope you are well! Sorry for the late reply. Well done for all your achievements so far! You're doing really well! As you're only 15 I would say your initiative is a great first step. Number one thing is believe in yourself! You can do it! There is still a lot of time before you have to sit A-Level exams so keep that in perspective. There are so many excellent resources out there to help you and the key is to utilise them well. Also don't work too hard! It's important to have time to rest and refresh yourself to make sure you don't burnout. I understand how different it must be doing it alone, you're doing a great job so far! Exams are important but they are not the most important thing and they absolutely do not decide the rest of your life. I have failed many exams on my path to becoming a doctor and that is normal. In the end it doesn't matter what grade you got when you were a teenager when you're living your best life in the future. Your life will only be decided by you. Believe in yourself.

What kind of costs for trips and where did you buy them. I'm going in June
@PreetiJulian
@PreetiJulian 2 года назад
I got a good deal on my flight by using the price comparison website Kayak and doing a layover in Istanbul. We used Agoda, Hostelworld, and Airbnb to book low-cost accommodation. For our excursions, we used the Lonelyplanet Greece guidebook to find what day trips we wanted to do and looked at bus schedules to arrange them (we didn't buy any guided tours). We used a price comparison website to find a good rental car deal through Budget. Hope this helps and have a great time in June!

Hi preeti, I’m 13 this year and i’ve been wanting to go to oxbridge or Harvard since I was 9. Last year (year 7) got average for most subjects and top for 3-4 subjects like maths, geo, history, and chinese. I’ve been working really hard this to improve my grades but I still don’t know if its all worth it. Can you please share your experience when you were my age? Did you have to get top grades for all the subjects to get to where you are now? Is there anything I should do right now so It’ll help me alot in the future? thanks <3
@PreetiJulian
@PreetiJulian 2 года назад
Thanks for your comment! So sorry for the late reply. I emailed you but also posting the response below in case it can help others! 1. At 13 the most important thing is focusing on GCSEs. Don't worry about the end of term/end of module exams that don't count toward your final grade. Learn the content as you go along. 2. Any tests before GCSEs don't matter so don't worry about them! But you do need top grades for GCSE and A-level 3. Think about what subjects you will excel in for GCSEs. More importantly, remember to have fun! I had lots of hobbies like cricket, guitar, football, reading and chess. It's good to do everything in moderation, it makes you a well-rounded person equipped to handle any challenge. Good luck with everything!
