I agree with Streisand us own assessment that she was, at twenty-five, far to young. And then there was the fact that she did I can Get it for You Wholesale and then was starred in the stage version of Funny Girl, and never did another Beat play. She had a successful recording concert, and TV career. But she had become a personality. The main difference between Fanny and Dolly was costuming. Streisand always played herself.
They basically cut Roddy McDowell (Bobby) out of the picture, turning what remained into a gay joke for Billy Rose to poke fun at. Turned off a lot of Babs' fans at the time, I'm sure. The scene with the kid creates sympathy for a character which sometimes is loud and strident.
This is the B-side of the _People_ 45 single, just as _Funny Girl_ was becoming a Broadway smash, and right before _My Name is Barbra_ debuted on television.
Otherworldly voice. It is jaw droppingly beautiful. When it's ringing I feel like another dimension is opening just a bit. It sounds corny but that's my experience. Thank you Barbra for your gift of song all these years.
Love love love Barbra ❤❤❤ she is my second in command (Madonna being my glorious leader...i know probably an unpopular opinion on this, bit she was the first female singer I bonded with) barbra being an every present in my life. Who got me through some tough times. Her voice...her beauty...and her power ❤❤❤
Shocking, she lost the Tony to Channing for "Hello Dolly." I would love the list of the Tony voters and how they voted. Our beloved Barbra paid back with the movie version of "Hello Dolly." Revenge is so sweet 😋. FABULOUS POST! THANK YOU!!!
Whoever thought the day would come when a German-speaking Austrians sell out a Jew's concert in less than an hour. The backdrop for this event was insane. Barbra wasn't in the finest voice for the European leg of her tour, but she got the job done. Too bad it ruined her voice forever.
@@snarkyenigma9219Of course the voice changed, all of us would sound different when we get older. It is an aging issue for singers, vocal chords gets loosen when aging, also a reason why so many singers quit when they got old, they push their voice or control it like the way they did when they were young. Barbra’s sing voice has been very naturally, almost like speaking in pitch, she can still belt on notes and long phrase even in her 70s.
@@kevin40428 Her trademark crystal clear clarity in her singing voice was still occasionally apparent throughout her 60's, but her (((belting))) days were over long before she even hit 70. IMHO, she should have called it quits (LIVE touring) with the 2006-7 tour, because the magic has been gone since about then.
'91 was pre-You Tube, streaming etc; so very few people ever saw this video, in fact where would you even see it back then? I had the record, but this is my first time seeing this. It was the closest thing we got to seeing Streisand perform live back then.
Sweeping and majestic and, above all else, intelligent. The entire score is like a scholar’s book of learning. It challenges you to think and to feel. Perfect on every level. ❤
Very nice. . Barbra included the michel legrand instrumental in the special yentl albums released last year., but i think its different from what Michel Legrand released in europe..
