Late to the Game Outdoors is all about learning to be a better hunter and outdoorsman. It is designed as a resource for the rest of us: the guys who didn't grow up hunting and are playing catch-up in their adult years; who have families, budgets and full time jobs that all conspire to get in the way of the outdoors; who devote countless more hours dreaming about being in the woods than they actually get to spend in the field.

I'm not an expert...I haven't been doing this nearly long enough to be even close. But as I learn things and figure it out, I want to share what I'm learning in hopes that maybe it can help you be a more successful and confident hunter. I also hope to inspire others through capturing actual hunts to prove that a guy with mismatched camo, a budget bow or gifted rifle, zero endorsements, and a calendar packed with non-hunting activities can still enjoy the outdoors and successfully put meat in the freezer.

I’ve had this same conversation with my 5 and 4 year old boys and continue to reiterate these points with them. I like the watermelon exercise, I’ll definitely have to do that with them!

My fist 2 hunts were with my brother inlaw, he was helping me get started. Since then ive been solo hunting for the last 7 years. Lucky enough to have a hunt every year except 1. Ahh the first night alone that is was crazy scary for me . Being Navajo and growing up with the skinwalkers stories and my own encounters. Still have to break that mentality wall every first night of the season. Then it becomes fun again.

To any parent or guardian who taught a kid how to shoot a gun (handgun or rifle), how big of a firearm are kida able to carry without it being to heavy for them, how would they hane the recoil & what kind of guns would you pick for your kids that doesn't have a big recoil for them to handle?
@OnlyJayBoss
@OnlyJayBoss Месяц назад
22lr rifle is the best - recoil is not much and a good practice gun for any beginner - some range from $250 - $500

Earlier I saw archer shoting better from an old cheap bow then with new one more expensive just because he had shot out more time out of the cheap one.

Taking my 4 year old daughter on a mule deer hunt this season. It’ll most likely be just a day outdoors “hunting” but she loves going with me to set cameras and retrieve them now we’ll try sitting for a while and if a deer comes by I’ll send an arrow. But as much as she talks I know that’s not gonna happen lol but in her mind we’ll be hunting!

I switched to Matthews and struggled with bow torque for months till one day I did just what you said in this video. I just looked up and lined the string straight off the cam. Trained my hand and now I can constantly shoot that bow without torque. There's not enough people talking about this online.

Great vid! I am gonna do exactly this and add to it. I will bring my kid’s favourite toy and after the watermelon demo ask which gun is ok to shoot the toy with and which would be a bad idea, then tease a little about the real gun to drive it into them No, No, No way would anybody point a firearm at anything they don’t intend to destroy. Paper and pop cans only!

Awesome production quality video. I am also late to the game, been dreaming of hunting ever since I was 14 with no family or friends to mentor. Mid 20s now and I'm getting closer than ever to taking spring turkey this season.

I really appreciated the analysis from a highly experienced hunter. I use to see a lot of comparisons of very different types of binoculars or different companies. My concerns were details of how the glass performed in comparison. Your videos helped out. I think you answered a big question: “Is more expensive glass worth it?” Yes if you use it often enough and are dependent on it enough.

Have you noticed a difference in the glass quality between gen 1 and gen 2? I want to get the gen 1 because I can’t stand the barrel focus we have them at work. The fine focus is so much easier and you don’t move your scope trying to adjust the focus

I’m 61, been doing it for 40 years, and have no plans to stop. My wife knows where I am at, she understands I know what I am doing, I pack in to the wilderness between 4-5 miles, not that deep. Used to go 12-18 miles, not necessary. I have one encounter with a bear and one with a mountain lion, all good we are all still alive. 😂😂😂 Be smart about it and prepared, I have made my mistakes and have learned , education is constant in the wilderness. Not for everyone. But archery solo is rewarding Straight shooting
