@@belmontlegionplays3853 a bit of both depending on the tune this one in particular uses most instruments from a real Roland fantom 8 including part of the lead and the korg kronos 2 for the steel drums and bell and drum kits and also a extra layer of steel drums and bell from the Edirol SD90 with part of the double lead from the Yamaha TG500 called 'REAL FM'. the actual gear i have at home are the ones i mentioned above plus a DX7 II FD, Yamaha MU2000EX, Korg X5DR (i'm still waiting for my Korg NS5R) and the Korg AG-10 which essentially is a cleaner sounding M1 everything else is either sound fonts, or samples i ripped from units that don't use a proper sound engine like the drums kits from a JV-1080 which come in handy for mega man type stuff or the VSTs are that good like the one i use as a SQ-80 (SQ8L)
@@belmontlegionplays3853 Well i don't either i usually only take out the workstations out one at a time and the modules aren't that big most stuff can fit on one side of a closet and i have a sound blaster card built into my pc so connectivity is pretty easy. I'm from the U.S.A. and moved here to Tallinn, Estonia a year ago from Phoenix though I'm natively from Baltimore city but I'm actually lucky living here not just for the piece of mind i get but some really wealthy people will move here for 1-3 years than move and sell their stuff for super cheap because the shipping tax is about the same as the items 😐 and i got the work stations for a crazy good deals, like i got the Roland fantom with 16 GB of presets for 500$ the kronos 2 for 400$ and the DX7 II for 200$.

Hey man, even though I've been on the other side myself can't deny drugs have a negative side. And addiction can put a huge stint in a persons productivity. I live in Estonia now but when weed was legalized in AZ I was high 24/7 for a year till eventually I reliezed that's all I wanted to do and didnt care about anything. So I stopped and now I have made over 100 of the best video game remixes on the planet, what a crazy change up that was. Drugs kinda suck

Hey Steve, same story as usual...I had to go and listen to the original before leaving a comment. So I actually know the game this time but I don't recall the music as I didn't own the game (I watched it briefly at a friends house), upon listening to your rendition I got scared and thought you turned a batman game soundtrack into a synth wave sci fi "Terminator" song 😂. How wrong was I 🤦🏽♂️? Firstly how was such a crazy soundtrack in a batman game (I'm assuming the game was based off of the Saturday cartoon show which had a very different sound & feel compared to this) but I really like it. Your rendition smooths out some of the rough edges and almost sounds like it's now been upgraded and can now be inserted into the Terminator movie, I love how Sci-Fi it now feels, excellent work 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽.
Because this isn't my type of game I've actually never heard of it let alone it's music. I had to go and watch the game being played on RU-vid and listen to the first levels music to appreciate what you guys have done here. It's very impressive how you've made something which sounded um....12-16bit-ish? So fresh but it now sounds late 80s or early 90s, I really like what's going on here, well done 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Thanks again homie 🥳Your deff on point it's the usual ym2151 fm it's less advanced than the one in the genesis in some ways more in others and a 4-bit oki ADPCM chip (samples Drums/Voices/effects) it's the same set up in most arcades of the time 1985/1992. if you use the emulator * arcade64 * it's a fork of mame, even if you don't have the rom you can right click and hit the information and it will tell you what's hardware the cabinet uses. Also if your really curious you can use this link github.com/mamedev/mame/tree/master/src/devices and it take you to mames CPP menu (drivers) and it will tell you exactly how well certain hardware like sound chips and cpu's ect are emulated for instance The BREZZASOFT CRYSTAL SYSTEM has a chip that handles most stuff even sound called the Magic Eyes VRender0 and it's missing all its envelope functions (they describe how the music changes to the hardware) so anyone playing The Crystal Of Kings is not getting the full experience haha
Hell yea we tore this up. It was alot easier than the first time. we had a better foundation and I'm better at hearing how the guitar sounds react with the others instruments. And of course jose an all around great musician.

I was so confused while listening to this, i couldn't even remember what the original sounded like lol, i thought "oh no, steve got the wrong" but nope thats legit jazz game over music. Its so different from what everything else in the game sounds like, l'm probably wrong but i think the Atari ST & Amiga use that music for their versions title screen for altered beast. Ima check out those versions osts cause I'm curious now lol but yea man this OST is all over the place, the title sounds like it's ripped right out of a conan movie, the gameplay is very orchestrated with some greek instruments here and there. The beast mode is like hilu crap all over the place TRUST ME I KNOW! 😄 🤣 😂 like the organ music at my old church, mixed with orchestral electro and hip hop, and than the ending music is like the ending of some comedy sitcom or stage play. I remember waiting forever to play set 1 of juuouki that used the FD system in mame. we've been using set 8 of altered beast and set 7 of juuouki since the start. Set 8 deff uses more samples.. They really overhauled mame this year the updating the FM chips especially adding a real OPN2C emulation which is essentially a genesis opn2 with filters it's also called the ym3438 but man the games that use it sound so good now
it's one of the first arcade games I can really vividly remember. When I was 6 my grandfather had part ownership of a bowling alley called Greenway bowling in east baltimore back when duckpin was a big deal, it's where the projects were before the city demolished them. I mention that because it was a huge changing point for the whole Maryland. Anyways to this day I can still remember the sound of those bowling machines and the pins getting plucked with that open warehouse atmosphere., the altered beast demo going off with that ominous howling and those animations with the eyes looking around made it look and sound so high tech man jeez. Than the double dragon machine title music soon going off. They even had the VS super mario bros arcade machine in there.
Hell yea dude my favorite part of that though is the bass drop lol this mix was so hard get the instruments to play well with each other and i scrapped it so many times. The apreggio is a blend of 'crumble synth' and and 'contemporary orchestra' and the wrap around sound is 'bend synth bars' and a Jpop brass. That organ with the electric wrapping sound is a VKhold4speed and very quite deep purple organ and the electric wrap is a soft pad called chariots. The bass is a jungle bass for the groove and a DnB bass for depth. The drums 🥁 are a yamaha RX kit mixed with a electro kit from the kronos
Yea i couldnt have done this without those kronos strings. i tried strings from other synths and they were either to much and overpowering or had that stuck sound whereas the kronos just flows. I really love sword and sorcery scores from the late 70's and 80's. I've heard alot of remixes and they always seem to use brass as a lead or that one type of dude that plays it on a keyboard with all sqaures (people really like sqaure waves haha) but I could always notice that it sounded more whimsical with the brass as a secondary. Plus I also wanted to put emphasis on not just the physical which would be more brassy (think NFL theme haha) but also on the mount ability so I gave a secondary bass lead acting like a guitar for a galloping feel and the magical element I used a musette de cour as a third lead which is like the space ship equivalent compared to a regular bag pipe. May sound strange maybe not but I grew up in a very irish centric family but I never liked those Uilleann pipes. And later found out the different variations across Europe and they were OK but the musette de cour Is the first variation I can say I actually love as an instrument

Appreciate that man 😀 this one was one of my harder projects as I scrapped it 4 times not achieving the sound a wanted as every instrument including the drums wanted to over take each other but luckily was able to finally find a configuration that worked and even got to add a mean bass drop during the appreggio 😄 🤣 I had to use a compressed yamaha RX drum kit so it didn't over power the other instruments and laced it with a electo kit from the kronos and got something that stood out but didn't over whelm and that loopy jungle baseline haha its like im straight up spinning the bass but it works.😀 And yea I'd like to see a proper remaster they don't even have to change anything just give it new art and music and a 16:9 With art along the lines of guilty gear X on dreamcast.

yea Jose is a amazing guitar player and really chill to work with. And i feel you on the copy cat thing sometimes I'll be working on a project and someone will drop it in the same group and i have to wait another month or 2 till i drops it haha which is fine cause just gives me time to make it better. Also i felt Kind of off dropping the Zanac track even though it's Zanac and Not Zanac EX ( which I'm still trying to reverse engineer haha cause you did a crazy good job with that) like you did which is why i had to make Synth drums cause the OG is very minimal. also me and you have 2 Completely different approaches, My whole thing is layering and blending with dynamic instruments, Your good at compressed instruments and expanding the sound and manipulating EQ. maybe one day we could tag team something I'm sure it would turn out sick. at the end of the day we the same dudes we love making tracks and our friends and family. i'll give you a heads up of my future catalog, altered beast, U.N. sqaudron, 2 nemesis 2 MSX joints, And another Varth track and i want to fix that Magician lord composition online and the ninja spirit one
This is really cool, a proper toe tapper. Unfortunately I never played Sonic 3 or Sonic & knuckles so I can't compare it to the original but this sounds so sweet.
