Rivians can also correctly show all Tesla Superchargers that will charge the vehicle from the navigation screen. Click on the "Network" button and select "Tesla" and then click on the "Hide" button and make sure that "Adapter needed" is NOT selected. Now you'll see all of the Superchargers that require an adapter for Rivian use. Hope this helps!
I prefer Waze over Rivian’s navigation BUT I would really like Audible integration. Shouldn’t be too difficult since they’ve already got Alexa integration.
It uses the same billing information that I set up in the vehicle to work with Rivian’s network so no need to set up a Tesla account! You just plug in and it works.
@@SamiKhan-jl6jk Has Lucid officially been announced as being supported on their Superchargers yet? I know Ford and Rivian were the first 2 to be given access at first. Pretty sure there is some software integration that happens on Tesla’s side so that the charger knows what car it’s connected to.🤷🏾
Thank you Dre for the awesome video. I am heading to Gaithersburg next weekend to demo test drive a 2025 R1S. I am still looking at the Lyriq but this would be a good time to test drive a Gen 2 R1S....
One of the reasons (not the only reason) I decided on a Lightning over a Rivian was CarPlay. It doesn't take very much for auto makers to included CarPlay/Android Auto into their systems so the consumer has a CHOICE of what they want to use. You prefer the Rivian system, that's great. If CarPlay was on your Rivian, at no point do you ever need to launch it and you can carry on as you are today. However for those of us who prefer CarPlay, Rivian has decided to not provide that simple and well loved feature. At this point, if an automaker is not including CarPlay/Android Auto, it is a conscious decision with motives that only suit themselves. Trust me, they are not doing it for your own good as per GM made statements. Hopefully. these companies (ie. Rivian, Tesla, GM...) gain more than they lose because crazy people such as myself that make that as part of their purchasing decision do exist.
I hear you, no one was more pro CarPlay than I was. All of the cars that I've purchased since CarPlay was a thing all have CarPlay and that was a huge reason why. But that was because at the time CarPlay was the best UI you could hope for in a vehicle. That's just no longer the case. Any functionality that I want to use my phone for now like Waze, apple maps, etc, I still have access to because my phone is still there. Only now CarPlay doesn't take over my display with its icon based display.
@@ChargedUpEV-gx2ik Great to hear that you understand that there are crazy people out there that put these kind of things high on the purchasing decision list because you were also one of them. I also do get what you are saying and I can't really speak on Rivian's software because I haven't lived with it on a daily basis. It is very possible that Rivian or some other company can be better than Apple CarPlay. Apple though, is also not sitting still. There are a bunch of videos showing the custom interfaces and features on the new CarPlay that were just announced this past week. One of the key points of CarPlay is familiarity. I could go rent a car, launch CarPlay and everything is exactly where it was in my truck. No fees, no subscriptions to set up. everything just works. Another big thing are developer apps. You might not find any of the current CarPlay apps useful but maybe one day there will be something you like. you get no option to use it, you just get fed what Rivian thinks you should. So in these aspects. No, Rivian infotainment is not better than CarPlay. Again, I am not against car manufactures making their own great systems. Please do. Force me to not want to use CarPlay and it sounds like Rivian is doing a good job at it. But please, just add that one button that allows me to use CarPlay if I want to. Well, it's only please, if you want my money. If you don't need my sale, then carry on.
I have my music on my phone. I don't have or want Spotify or another streaming services for music, and I listen to a lot of audiobooks through the Libby App. How will that work without CarPlay? Why not let me have the choice?
Hey, there is still Bluetooth phone integration so you can still listen to anything you want to from your phone. It also shows whatever you’re listening to on the screen and gives you playback controls for it. I still do a lot of phone audio playback depending on what I’m listening to.
Just got mine a week ago, and I feel the same way love it! I don’t miss Apple CarPlay as much as I thought I would, but I found that I can’t really rely on finding stuff that’s correct from the Rivian navigation. The Apple CarPlay map isn’t perfect, but the Rivian map is behind. It needs an update.
100% the built in maps need an update but that’s to be expected with any new mapping system. I remember how bad Apple Maps were when they first came out. But the rest of the interface is gorgeous!
Got ours about a month ago. Don’t think I can ever drive anything else now. The car is gorgeous, powerful, and a beauty of a ride with the right settings. Look forward to seeing where she takes ya!
Waze is a convenient service but I don’t necessarily need it taking over my gorgeous UI. I can still access it when I want on my phone. Same with any other music app. I still play most music from my phone so there’s no limitation there. The phone bluetooth audio is well integrated into the native UI.
You bought something and went on social media to tell strangers about it? Really dude? Have some self respect, man. That's what women do. They go shopping and tell all their girlfriends about it. Be a better man than that. Don't be so thirsty. Go about your business quietly, confidently, like you have some self-esteem. Let your actions do your talking for you. I hate seeing grown men act like little girls. Be better than this.
@@ChargedUpEV-gx2ik For sure!!! I was going to get the CyberTruck but it's only a 5 passenger. I was so close to getting a Yukon Denali, and although I'm not worried about the price of gas, I still refuse to pay for the ridiculous prices nowadays. There was also the Lucid Gravity, but with all the negative statements and the supposed, possibility that the company may close, the R1S came out the winner. Rivian has been out almost the same time as Lucid Motors, but Rivian is more established and has been gaining momentum and dependability. Thanks for the reply Bro!
Still doing research on those running boards. I’ve been hearing that some of the running board installations require drilling in places that are not recommended. I was hoping Rivian would offer some!
@@ChargedUpEV-gx2ik I’ve heard the same! I also heard rock sliders are a little easier to install just a little higher in price. But I think that’ll be a clean look for your rivian.
Congrats! Got the same R1S in dual motor. Love the Forrest Green interior. I'm planning a trip to Montreal from Connecticut. I'm glad to see that you had no issues.
Congrats on getting a Rivian! I’m thinking of getting the R1T soon. How come you had to go all the way to Cleveland when Rivian has a location in Maryland?
I was looking for a very specific configuration and the location in Maryland did not have it. Kinda glad I was able to road trip with it my first day so I could check that box and not have any anxiety about taking long road trips. It was a breeze to charge!
Don’t miss CarPlay at all. In fact I’m on a business trip in California this week and my rental car has car play and now I miss my Rivian’s interface. To be clear, the directions from the Apple Maps app are more accurate for routes that don’t require charging so when I want quick directions I still use the phone app.
Appreciate the review, looking into getting a rivian r1s to have more space for the family and something electric. Seemed like charging was a breeze for you, that’s something I was curious about for road trips.
That’s actually one of the reasons I wanted to document a road trip. A lot of my friends thought that you have to stop and charge for hours when you have an EV. I actually only needed to charge once coming back from Rivian but I have my route planning settings set wrong.
Same. Every time I would check inventory there was always black and black variants. That’s why I ended up driving up to Cleveland to pick up the configuration I wanted!
