I thought that magnetic island is a metal island with grey rocks or something, but this is a true tropical island after all. Nice pythons, echidnas and the death adder. A true Australian ecosystem. Also, I am pretty sure that no frog can eat an adult death adder. They may attempt, but doesn’t mean that they can succeed.

I will be staying in Donji Seget in July for a week, and top of my list to spot is the European Glass Lizard Pseudopus Apodus, preferably a live one. I was hoping to go to north Portugal this summer to visit the Peneda Gerês national park and spot the Timon lepidus and the Western Montpellier Snake. Unfortunately flights to Oporto are now rather expensive. So settled for Croatia instead.

It's amazing and understandable that it was called an Adder. You are correct natural selective pressure of similar niche animals causes them to look like one another even though genetically they are completely unrelated (no vipers in AussieLand.) Similar to the Old world and New World "Vine Snakes."
@jaimeortega4940
@jaimeortega4940 4 месяца назад
Usually, island populations of snakes depending on the amount of time disconnected from the originating species, really become a unique sub-species. Usually with more potent venom due to lack of prey and dwarfism or gigantism. Like your Red Bellied Black Snakes that inhabit islands.
@jaimeortega4940
@jaimeortega4940 4 месяца назад
Sixth most toxic venom but probably one of the fastest if not the fastest strike in the entire world. So fast in fact many bitten never saw it bite or even believed they were bitten. Fortunately, they rarely bite humans.

Love the Aussie's naming conventions for animals. "Hey mate what's say we name the baby Echidnas - puggles?" friend "G-job mate! Puggles it is!" Really should be renamed to "Tribbles."

Nice black-headed pythons and monitor. It is difficult to make a nice recording of a monitor. I didn’t know that brown tree snakes are so common in Australia. Now it is easy to imagine them as an invasive species on a small island. Also why you didn’t handle anything on camera? You aren’t getting a real feeling for herps if you don’t handle them, and in this respect they are better than birds or mammals. You could well measure the python and feel her belly just by holding her for a few minutes.
@fishingandherping7681
@fishingandherping7681 4 месяца назад
Thanks mate, to be honest I do prefer to minimize handling though just to keep reduce disturbance as much as I can especially considering I photograph them for a while, and also to reduce the chance of other people handling snakes as a result of my videos and then ending up possibly misidentifying snakes or getting bitten themselves, causing harm to the snake etc.
