I have been working on VW’s, BMW's, Porsche, Honda's....... for many years. As an Engineer my mind and hands have to stay busy, so there is always something to do besides cars. So please subscribe and allow me to share my experiences with you.
Glad you mentioned about keeping the distributor in place…. Seems people don’t remember or know that the drive gear can jump out. Pressures look good, once it’s ran that might be a 10w30 engine lol
i got quick jack and love them, on my other vehicle and i never try on the beetle and soon i need to lift my beetle to remove the engine do you think its high enough to remove a engine.
never seen an fi engine pulled apart. i'm curious to see differences between those heads and current aftermarket offerings. also, since you asked, oil deflector orientation was correct.
Is that from the convertible you were working on? That poor car has certainly seen better days. Yes the plate under the alternator stand for the oil fill was oriented correctly.
Hello friend. After seeing your video I feel a LOT better about my 73 Super Beetle Convertible. I've only owned it for 2 years and I'm not a mechanic but I can safely say that it is "almost" rock solid. The floor pans are original and only has one weak section in the rear drivers side floor. I'm too old to make too many improvements and I don't have much room in my garage. It runs good but I need to find someone who can work on the carburetor. And, it's AutoStick but it works pretty good. I had to make improvements to the linkage and now I get all three forward gears and reverse. That wasn't so easy before. I in my 70's and I like the idea that I was able to improve its' condition.
Sometimes I wonder why people don’t protect the car and mechanicals from the environment when storing. Carefully placed tarps are not that expensive; definitely less expensive than the damage caused when not protected. Those CV joints use Torx type or Allen (can’t remember exactly which) bolts just like you said. They possibly found the same thread and pitch bolts with conventional hex head and replaced the originals. A shame that the car was pretty solid and got a DIY spray can paint job. They didn’t even mask correctly or took things apart. There also seems to be irregular body filler in some body panels.
1:44 Careful ! Don't put the lens on the table like that. It might get scratched. Place a soft cloth on the table first . 12:17 The original bulb was clear incandescent type. Why replace it with blue ? Isn't that against regulations ?
