In a nut shell… Sanding sucks! As labor gets increasingly difficult to find, train and keep, it seems the people who want to sand are an even greater challenge.
We need solutions that elevate our people while at the same time increase quality & productivity. STOLBEK believes at the heart of every innovation the operators job should get easier and your company should make more money.
Was great working with you. I had another crazy idea about how to better include the finishing machines and ovens. Get ready to be part of another experiment ! You rock Graham !
I have this conversation regularly with people about only focusing on the value added and ignoring the non value added, like how product moves from station to station. The automated spray line has a value over the hand spraying that isn’t addressed, the repeatable standard of quality that is very hard to replicate with a human. Watching the video, I would love to see he results of running the spray line with improvements to the flow and batch size as well as transportation of those smaller batches, and see how those numbers would change.
I think the finishing line will win by about 1.5-2x but 2 Brads do not cost $500k so it would take 5-7 years to break even on hiring the finishing machine and Brads setups will take up WWWAAAYYY less space.
Hi @Changemypaint ! What region are you located in? I will connect you with a Stolbek representative to get you your answers! feel free to email us here at info@stolbek.ca Thank you!
No greater words have been spoken “don’t ever buy a used edgebander”. So true, the most complicated machine in most shops, run and maintained by the guy with the least experience and maintained only when it’s broken, that’s what your getting with used. If it was a great machine, they wouldn’t be selling it!
What's the ballpark price for the setup shown in the video? Without calling. I have multiple vendors that only do hand sanding, but they're pushing out at least 6 full kitchens per day. I know approximately how much they pay their finish staff, so I'm really curious about roi and payback on this robot. The video honestly doesn't make it obvious that it would improve workflow nor cashflow at these places.
The roi is amazing with that labour force! We can double the output of each operator with a cost less then an employee. The value far surpasses the cost. No overtime! No sick calls! Would you agree sanding sucks?
Does the machine need to be programmed for the part geometry, or is it scanning the size and depth of the features and programming itself? That would be a cool method if you're doing different parts often.
