I was at the game. Coinsided with the Texas state fair. Yelled myself hoarse, as did the others in my group. We had no affiliation with either team. Absolutely amazing contest!
Still watch this in 2022. A glorious moment. We had waited for a long time and it felt so great to win like that. Hopefully Rhett Lashlee will bring us many more games like this one.
Love Sunny at SMU but I find it funny that he references the 1982 SMU/Tech game when Tech is probably going to be making a play for him to go to Lubbock now that they need a new HC. If he does take the job, I wonder if he'll bring up that same game but say that he asked his dad to take him to see a Raider's game instead.
The one mistake June Jones made is that once SMU won the Hawaii Bowl, he made the goal of future seasons the Hawaii Bowl. In other words, no next step, no conference championship, but a Bowl game so he could go to his home. That's when I knew his days were numbered.
