==========VIDEO COMMENTS========== Because of the high level of trolling that happens sometimes in the elevator community, all comments on my videos on this channel require approval. However, that doesn't mean that I am very strict about what can and cannot be put in comments. In fact, I approve almost every comment left on my videos. The ONLY comments that I don't approve are ones from trolls.
As far as I know, these are still touch (though I haven't checked in a while). The ones at Sibley Tower are also still touch (they're protected because the building is a historic site, according to management).
You know this mall is about to fail financially, where the garage is used for storage space by dealerships and repair shops. And no auntie annes anymore :(
Goodwill always has good prices on rare to find items as this at any Goodwill. You mentioned ebay selling average 30 hundred dolllars? assuming you meant $3,000? been checking now average selling less then $200 to low $75.00. But $30.00 good deal.
DEFINITELY earns the Major Taylor Award. That's just plain TERRIBLE. When you know it's this bad, just ride it up ONCE, so you don't get blamed for wrecking it. If it dies on that one try, they can't get you on that.
Those door tracks with that skinny gap sure look like the ones that "United States Elevator" spelled out in cursive. The doors would have to be new. Also... just a side thought... but I always find it interesting how Kone's voice sounds like "going doieng" whenever I hear them in a video but not in person. I wonder why that is... Anyway, nice video. I don't know that I've ever seen a newer Kone mod on older hydros like this. Very interesting. Kone seems to tend to replace hydros with their EcoDisc units.
I worked on a building right down the street from here a few years back. One thing I remember most was the elevator. I thought this must have been the first elevator built in the world. It was SO old. On the bottom floor you could see the huge motor and belt used to move the elevator. There was a huge belt that actually went across the ceiling. Anyway, there were no call buttons, if you wanted to ride you had to go find which floor the car was on. Also, when you go it the elevator, there was no ceiling, you could see straight up the 6? floors to the top of the elevator shaft. A thick metal cable ran through side of the car. To start, you pulled down on it, to stop you just grabbed it. I can't remember the name of the building, they are apartments now though. Ever been there or have video of that?
I don't think I've been to that building, though I think I may know which one you're talking about (and I had wondered what was in there). Where exactly is it in relation to this building?
I couldn't remember, but I looked on google maps. It's the "Searle Building" on St. Paul/Andrews St. Right by World Wide News. It Says "Searle Bulding" in big letters on the side of the building. 6 years ago we were tearing the building apart to make apartments. I'm actually curious about it now myself..maybe I'll have to take an adventure. If you do decide to go, and the elevator is still there, will you upload a video of it?? thanks!
This happens from time to time with older Haughton starwheel selectors. It's unfortunate that 7 was locked. Typically you could get these systems to at least temporarily start working by running from the bottom to the top and back a few times. If there's a switch or a relay sticking, running through the top and bottom floors a few times will get them moving. You're absolutely right. The relay never closed for the 3rd floor call. That's why you kept going back there.
