Cool video. There is a truck like this near my house just sitting behind a business. Not moving. I’m thinking about trying to buy it. Long time Datsun owner, but currently without one. Yours looks super cool and this one looks similar. I’m not sure mechanically how it is.
I live in the area and I can’t find ANY accurate info on race days and times for this track. I’ve been trying to find an event to take my kids to there for a couple years. I even thought the track was closed but I keep seeing things like this as well as an episode of Roadkill Garage. Where is the info?
My folks were surprised there was anything at Samoa "of all places" The Volks Group does their own promotion and I was invited by them. I notice Samoa's website isn't updated but they also post on Facebook and I believe they did have a flyer for memorial day Mayhem but I never went looking for it...
This is awesome. I’ve got a 521 also! I already wanted the blue but I got a patina red and it really grew on me. Post your @ for ratsun or others so we can follow the forums!
Drove my 71 down the "rough" gravel Road south of 20 in the early 90s in the spring had the hot springs all to myself before little house was there and they started charging money floating on my back under the stars on a thermarest in the square hot pool with millions of stars all around... but 14 fewer VW buses.. now there's a memory
If I was camping somewhere or at some cool Hot Springs and 15 VW buses with 15 dogs rolled up on me I'd be like wow bummer the whole vibe just got ruined. That's just me my idea of a amazing time is when there's a few to no other people, vans, vavagons, syncro's or not.
I don't mind a VW car show or something but this many people arriving at the Hot Springs at the same time? That's like backpacking and having a group of 12 to 15 people come stopping through a meadow or something I had a 71 for 10 years, and drove from Oregon to Baja and from Idaho to the northern tip Newfoundland, but a big huge group of people stomping around just ain't my cup of tea. I am more of a soloist. And of course it's a challenge to keep that big of a group together because it's too big of a group!
Road tripped to the Alvord from Cali during the lockdowns in my '78. Took Jungo road from Gerlach thru Deniio.. there's tons of cool stuff hidden out there.... I need to get up there again. Maybe I'll get lucky and run into your group...
Timing is off bruh. WOuldn't start with leads swapped. As for a cam issue? Never heard of one in a bug. Just loosen the distributor, over rotate in one direction, slowly turn back until it hums like rump=rump-rump...
it's funny cause I actually asked that at the time - I have a fat Scat cam in my bus and it'll lope on cold idle. But that lope goes away after a few minutes. When it didn't on this, I was REALLY curious.
I was testing out my 91 high top chevy conv. van, 98k miles, I paid 3k. I took my daughter 24 for a daytrip through the northern red's from Medford. I saw a beautiful baywindow parked in the bay. The day of the eclipse, and wondered about it. Saw it at the Safeway that night. That's what I do. And now I found this. I have camping spots in Medford if you need.
I know the feeling! Got 2-71 Datsun 521's having one for 46 yrs while the other 28 yrs. Simple, reliable, easy to work on and highly modifiable which is why I kept them to this day even at age 65!!!
Great video, Brendon! Great shots, narration and soundtrack. I so wanted to join the group, but my schedule was just too full. I had just finished about 5,000 miles doing the Texas US Route 67 VW Road Trip organized by Gary Alexander of the VW Life RU-vid channel. Here's hoping to join next year's adventure. Sere you and Harley on this year's Treffen?
I would LOVE to do this style video for Treffen. Knowing I can at least record my narration in a walmart parking lot inside my bus at 5am has really sparked my mind with how to approach these. This was distilled from 3 hours of video on my phone and editing took 6 hours (that FLEW by). Knowing how I can manage the logistics of producing a video from my rolling home not-a-studio means I can be doing this style of video I've WANTED to do since I first watched Vehicular Lunatics 20 years ago.
@@dbroenen I have the coordinates for Moab... But need to figure out a 5 gallon jerry can without putting it inside if I can help it. Don't wanna drag my single wheel THAT far. (You recall i'm sure how much FUN it was last summer. This trip it gave me NO grief but the UTILITY it provides isn't worth the racking my nerves take on washboarded dirt roads)
