Billy, I cheered your comment on not emphasizing the wins and losses. RIGHT ON!!! The Aggies are a first year program with 27-29 transfers. They have to learn to play together before they can learn HOW TO WIN! The coaches get the opportunity each week to gather more teaching material. I can’t wait to see the 2024 Aggies on November 30th against tu.
We tend to predict our results for upcoming opponents based on how good their offense looked against other teams. Ole Miss looked explosive before playing Kentucky and how'd that turnout?! My point is, yes we have to get better on offense to have a better chance against good offensive teams, but to say (David Nuno) that you don't see us beating Missouri with that offense against our defense if we don't get better on offense is totally overlooking what we have done on defense. This team is very similar to the Alabama teams that won championships with little to no QB play and a dominant running game combined with elite defense. Elko defenses usually hold their opponents to less than 27pts. We beat Missouri by running the ball against a defense that has not shown to be as good as Arkansas, keeping that offense off the field and dominating on defense when they are... PERIOD!!
I'm starting to believe I see the speed of the front 7 look like the speed of the old days of the Wrecking Crew, causing havoc and disruption in offenses with QB's running for their lives. Just waiting for the OL to dominate all game instead of just the 4th Q. Then we can be what we need to be to take on Texas in the last game of the season.
Reed just can't pass and his ability to run doesn't make up for his lack of ability to pass. This is game four now and we have seen it in all four games. Reed's inability to pass is making the offense way too one-dimensional.
@BigTimeBallas Healthy Wiegman can pass and work over a secondary. We have three very capable HB. We don't need a scrambling QB if the passing game is working.
Reed had 3 touchdowns. No turnovers. Ran at times fast , made key throw from end zone. Made throws dropped or no call interference ( to Tight End ). It wasn’t his best performance- but Arkansas is good at run stopping. And he did decent enough to win.
@JoshSmith-x5i "It wasn't his best performance" Reed has played 14 quarters and only the first three against Florida would I consider good and that was most likely because Florida was not prepared to stop a scrambling QB. While Bowling Green and Arkansas both prepared to stop a scrambling QB and completely shut Reed down.
And? Weigman vs Auburn bad. Vs Notre Dame bad. Reed didn’t turn it over. He made key plays at times. Throw to Noah Thomas was on point. He presents a “run capability” every time he has the ball. With Weigman it’s one dimensional as he’s more pocket passer , so defense would likely reach him more and sack him. Reed still played a solid game to get the job done. His running creates just another headache to prepare defense for. Why switch if we won and he has 3 touchdowns ? Can you honestly say Weigman has no turnovers by now like Reed ? I could see him sit in pocket get sacked for a fumble.
Biggest concern for A&M right now is the mid range passing game. Missing a long ball option isn't that big a deal, but you've got to be able to threaten the ~10-20 yard deep area accurately (not just hitting wide open guys) to avoid the defense scooting extra guys forward and screwing up everything else. Weigman, when he's on, has done it before. Reid hasn't really shown accuracy there yet, but both will be hampered by inconsistent receiver play. Mostly please with the Oline, obvious exceptions at times. 2 games in a row where the bad guys mostly scored on a couple big plays. Good overall, but it would have been nice to hold them to 10.
Arkansas defense very good because A&M offense is one dimension. A&M win because of A&M defense. There 4 things A&M needs to change in order to beat Missouri: 1) Reed needs to practice short pass and slant. He is not ready to pass >20 yards 2) OC is not smart, He has to know Reed is not ready to pass >20 yards. He cannot make good throw when WR run. He can throw well when WR stop. 3) A&M Coaches have a bad habit from Fisher: when tie of lead a minute before the half time, they don’t want to play any more and call off 4) A&M Coaches have a bad habit from Fisher: at crunch time they don’t know what to do, just call run. They have never prepared any play at crunch time
Billy, these “kids” are all adults. They are not “kids,” they are young men. And they are professional athletes. I was 17 when I enlisted in the Marines, by the time I was 18, I was a Marine. Sorry, some of these 18 year olds are being handed more money to practice for a few hours a week than a serving soldier, fireman, police officer, or plumber will make in a lifetime.
KJ Jefferson and Taylen Green are nowhere close to the same person my man. This man believes that they’re gonna shut down Arkansas’s run game. I can’t wait to watch the post game.

In my opinion Connor and Marcel both has struggled throwing the ball, Connor had a worse game against Notre Dame and it wasn't his first. Marcel has the ability to move the ball when he can't complete passes, he also open the run game up because of that, so in my opinion he should be locked at QB1. If Connor was accurate this is a different conversation, but he's not, so let's stop locking him in as QB1. He may have earned that at practice but he hasn't proven anything on the field this year and that's why Reed shouldn't be benched for a healthy Connor. If the opportunity comes again great, if not be a great backup while working to get better.
We have seen Weigman be quite accurate though, depending on the game (including a game or 2 against pretty good defenses). If he can be consistent, he's hands down a better passer then Reid. Hindsight with the Arky game still doesn't show Reid hitting into the midrange.
This could be the game Reed goes off because ARK has the worst pass defense in the SEC. A&M has been on the other end of this with bad pass defenses during the Fran & Sumlin era's where the defense allowed below average or average QBs go off for 300+yds and look like Heisman contenders. ARK could allow Reed to do the same. Not saying Reed is average or below average, I think he is really good to great, but in the rain he threw the ball well against Florida then struggle a smidge against BG, but now in a dome (like the bowl game), Reed could show his full potential. You can disguise a bad run defense and stack 8 or 9 in the box, you can't fix a bad pass defense this late in the season. Drop 7 or 8 all you want, if your 3 DL or 4DL dont pressure the QB, the QB will go off & Reed threw for 300+ against oSu & could do the same again this Saturday against Arkansas. Becuase of A&M's run game, ARK has to stack the box so their weak 2ndary will be more vulnerable. Thomas, Walker, Allen, Barber, Thor, Watson, & the RBs cold have a big day in the pass game if Reed is on targer. That's the key, is being on target. A good percentage of Reed's completions are the WRs adjusting to passes behind them or high or low. If Reed can improve his accuracy, 300+yds is a very strong possibility.
@@ArkMud Auburn has far worse QBs than Reed & they threw for 285yds. UAB threw for 235yds against ARK. You think a better QB than both of those, can't throw for 15 additional yds than AUB or 65 additional yds than UAB? Oklahoma State threw for 326 against ARK. I hope you're not hanging your hat on Pine Bluff. Like I said above, A&M has been on that end with Fran & Sumlin with extremely leaky 2ndaries that would make QBs & WRs look like All-Americans in a heartbeat. AUB had thrown for 165 against CAL, 235 against UNM, and had their best game against an FBS team with 285 against ARK. UAB threw for 215 against Alcorn State & 164 against UL Monroe, but then threw for 235 against Arkansas. 15 to 65 additional yds to reach 300yds or more is not out of the realm of possibility for A&M & Reed who are far better than AUB & UAB.
@@ArkMud ARK leads the SEC in passing yds allowed with 242.3yds per game. That's last place in the SEC. Its very possible. Look it up on ESPN Team Stats.
Love the show and love Nuno’s professionalism. I realize Billy is the owner, but if you have a guest on (Steve McKinney), let him talk before you spout things. Poor Steve even at one point said, “Am I even here?”
But look at his stats...there really not that special. I think players are gonna have to sign employee contracts for 1-4yrs which means a players union like the NFL. Will there be salary caps to level the playing field?
I loved the film review, it’s always fun to listen to someone who knows the game so well. Is there anywhere I could see more? Maybe a full game or key play breakdown?
I wondered about the QB trust of the line as well. These QBs have watched ~8 QBs have their seasons ended over the last 3 or 5 years at A&M. I'd be nervous too.
