I don't care what people say or criticize me for saying. I still think Sonny and Cher were a match that only happened once. I still enjoy the old shows.
also i had no idea who Sonny bono was until i got you babe come up on mtv music music from the 60s back in 2021 in lockdown i know who cher is love her song believe and i remember me running into my mum saying "mum who is Sonny from Sonny and Cher' didnt know his last name at the time and my mum say "darling his was married to Cher from 1960 to 1975 my mum was born in 1970 so she grow up with them anyways i say "well what happen to Sonny we dont hear much from him those days is mostly Cher did his stop being a singer"? my mum say "darling you are 23 so u do not know but Sonny died in january 5 1998 from a skiing accident at age 62" ummm took me 5 minutes to process what my mum say to me than i turn around and say "that two months before i was born as i am born on 4 march the same day Chaz bono is born and than my mum say "yes sweetie we were going to call you Sonny but likes Taylah better and than she say also you have a birthday twin im like what do u mean my mum say Sonny and Cher had a daughter atm and she is born 4 of march but in 1965 im like cool and now im obessed with the song and Sonny
How absolutely sad... those 2 were so good together & had it all! Looks like (somehow) they could have "worked-it-out" & not have divorced. They were (by far) my favorite entertainers back in the 70's! So very tragic how Sonny's life ended. Cher has definitely declined in her personal life over past decades.... sad.
I have always loved Sonny and Cher … and I’m old enough to have loved them through their entire careers. In fact, I got to see them perform live twice (thank you mom and dad) and still have my Sonny and Cher scrapbooks from the 70s. Yes, scrapbooks plural. But looking back, it really was a very odd and slightly unlikely act. They are so different and yet they had such amazing chemistry. I don’t know. I’m just reminiscing and thinking out loud. ❤❤❤
At age 15, in 1971, I wasn’t old enough to understand why, but I didn’t like the demeaning way the dialogue went at the beginning of each episode. Sonny was the target of disdain all wrapped in comedy. Ah well, calling the love of your life and the father of your child and the primary reason you are rich, popular and have a TV show a “dummy” every week wasn’t “normal” to me. I never saw my mom do that to my dad , nor dad do it to mom, especially in front of friends, and my friends didn’t do that to me at school and it was just too much. Toxic is what I’d call it now. I complained at that young age out loud that it wasn’t right, it didn’t have a good “ vibe. “Something about it isn’t right,” is probably what I said because “the put down “vibe” continued each week, unlike in a “normal marriage where the woman or man is not supposed to embarrass the love of each others life in public. I didn’t say “vibe” until later but that’s what I meant. My parents had a lot of card parties on Saturday nights, with many many friends, and talk like that was NEVER spoken. You could feel uneasy watching it even now. Then low and behold they divorced….it wasn’t hard to imagine why, disdain over time can become reality if the pressures and sentiments become unbalanced. Love conquers all if love is what you value. Love is selfless not harming. Seems as though in my mind love of self became Cher’s way…and probably Sonny’s too. That divorce too, was a big thing in our family, nobody was divorced in either side of the extended family. So when that happened, with Chastity involved, that was very discombobulating to my mind. Something new. Parents didn’t do that..abandon their child. I probably said that this way, but what will chastity do? Apparently people didn’t stay together and a raft of comedy shows with a single parent began to flood the networks each new season afterwards.
Magic. Sonny Bono was a brilliant producer and, although simple, he wrote beautiful, sincere, and universal songs. Of course, his greatest accomplishment was to bring Cher to the world. For that, I, we, will always be eternally grateful.
Truth be told...Cher was originally to shy to sing by herself.....he never really wanted to sing...or thought he was much of a singer...which..he wasnt...sonny was the original brains...behind thier success...Chers...unbeatable talent kept it going
