I'm a retired Aviation Maintenance Supervisor. Got my start in the US Air Force and retired from commercial aviation. Now that that's behind me, It's time to FISH!! Everything I know about Bass fishing, I learned right here on RU-vid! ! Join me in my fishing adventures mostly in East Central Florida and the Maine Woods. I fish fresh, salt, boat, kayak, bank.... whatever! I also do a little bit of traveling and when I do, I bring a rod & reel.
I don't change my iso settings at all. It stays on the default 100min - 1600max. I had changed the EV COMP to +.5 the day before, and forgot to change it back to zero so it was a bit dark on the first few clips. I caught it and changed it back. That's why I don't worry about changing any exposure settings just for a brief time during sunrise. I don't have time to fiddle with anything when I fish. I don't even want to change profiles. Just set it and forget it.
Thanks Don . I'm getting sad already as my summer is soon to be over!!!! Wahhhhhh. I don't know how you survive for half the year without fishing open water!

Too many people here with broken St. Croix rods. They are not dependable . I hope none of you go on a weekend fishing adventure with just a St. Croix rod. Could be the first 10 minutes of the adventure turns to sadness. I've been wanting to get a St. Croix rod, however during my research i keep finding the same issue with them over and over. Some touch the tip on something and other's are trying to horse a bass in and some are breaking them on the cast. I don't know what to think. I happily pay a few hundred for a casting reel, but a rod that cost 2 or $3 hundred that is very sensitive and light as a feather with no durability is not making sense to me.
Yeah my rod breakage was my fault. I snagged the tip on a steel shelf in the garage. That would have broken any rod. I'm completely happy with the St. Croix rods I have. Currently use 4 in my daily line up. (2 Legend Xtreme spinning rods, a Legend X Casting Rod and an Avid X Casting Rod). The other two rods are a Daiwa Zillion H/F Casting rod (broke that one on my second trip with it and they replaced it under warranty) and I have a Shimano Expride A.
You maam are the epitome of what i envision my new life to be. I just retired in May. Creeping through calm water in the early morning, slinging a Zara Spook, while awaiting the explosion is all that i need. Your chosen location looks extremely similar to mine in western New York state, an area teaming with smallmouth bass oftentimes pushing 4-5 pounds. Congrats on your retirement. I retired 8 years ago and I still thank God everyday for that gift. I really believe that every hard working human deserves retirement. Sounds like you're going to be as busy as I am with fishing. Love it!

I've thrown a chatterbait at just about every location I've fished. Haven't caught one yet. Surprised cuz I usually catch at least one good one on chatterbait. The grass was EXTREMELY thick in this stream. I'm wondering if it's always this way or if the water's low. Next time I'll fish the other end .... 5 miles downstream.

Pretty fun day on an awesome stream. I know you’ve told me you don’t eat fish before but man if I was fishing that spot I would have to bring home a half dozen of those beautiful Crappie or else Karen would give me the evil eye. We both love us some Crappie Tacos.

Well, Tracy, I went out today. I only got 2 nothing real big, but the temperature in the water is starting to come down. It's been 88 / 89. It was around 84 and a 1/2 today. I'm still waiting for the fish to turn on.
Awesome sunrise! Tech question.. do you have issues with the remote not connecting to one or more GoPros when you go out to fish? Mine has been very unreliable and I keep having to re-pair cameras to the remote. Also... that new "coming soon" magnetic charger door looks pretty cool for fishing.. makes them waterproof while charging.
Once in a great while, if a camera reboots, I have to do the pairing for all 3 cameras. But that's rare. I ordered all my GoPro 13 stuff on pre-order day. I probably won't get the anamorphic lens. No need. I will get the magnetic charge cables for all 3 cameras once available. Save me a lot of headache when the weather decides to drench me.
@OldLadyAngler the magnetic charge cables became available today. My gopro order triggered a fraud warning on my credit card so I am sure my order will be delayed. As handy as it is to have a 360 camera behind me, I think I am going to switch to all regular gopros now. Interested in seeing how hard a true HDR workflow would be.
Wife and I enjoying our AM tea as we watch. Nice smallie, our passion. My investigation leads me to believe it's a little pond near Ellsworth. We prefer as remote and camp free as we can. That being said we may take a venture as it is also a Southern zone body and open after September. Thanks and nice job.

That early morning sky is pretty amazing. What do you think the wind topped out at ? I’m a terrible judge of wind speed but often question what the weather apps say. It was supposed to be blowing up over 10 mph for this weekend’s tourney which is on one of the bigger lakes we’ve fish so far but Weather Underground now saying less than 6. mph. 🤞 Always fish around those swim platforms…beautiful tank of a Smallmouth, love the markings!
Thanks Don. Oh.... I'm pretty sure the wind hit 15mph. The forecast is rarely correct on wind. Even less accurate than when they try to predict the rain. I've not found any apps that are super accurate for wind. Not while here in Maine fishing the ponds in the mountains.
