Recreational angling in the Pacific Northwest. We enjoy fishing of all types but primarily focus on freshwater trolling for trout Kokanee or other landlocked salmon. Based in the puget sound we would like to share information about the lakes we fish and what things may make your next trip more successful. Please let us know what you think or what you’d like to see. As we get some time we’re hoping to bring you some other lakes. Thanks for spending time to watch our content and watch out for new releases as we navigate RU-vid and punch our timecard on the water. Shooting for 100 days on the water this year (at least) til we retire!

Appreciate the video. Couple of questions: How fast were you trolling? Were you using any scent?

Any colors working better than others?

@gigharborfishinclub989 Месяц назад
@@genevievewagenblast orange has been a go too color for us at lake Roosevelt the past few years. That being said, the majority of fish were picked up on only two presentations. The first, a metal head trolling fly in a black zonker! Pattern with streaks of red Mylar in the body. The whole fly is 2 inches or so. The other was a jointed glassrap trolling plug in a gold and brown gloss finish. Similar to a jointed shad rap I just think the finish is a little more glossy and iridescent. Running the both on a hybrid lead core two colors with an ounce of inline trolling weight between the line and 40” flourocarbon leader. 2.2 mph SOG

@@genevievewagenblast tried to stay around 2.2. We caught between 2-2.5. No scent on the flies or plugs. Soft plastics sometime get scent and in the early summer I like sweet corn transitioning to anise or garlic as the summer goes on. Be aware of the regs that if using natural baits OR scents fish are supposed to be retained if legal to do so so it limits catch and release opportunities if that’s your thing.

@@gigharborfishinclub989 Appreciate this very much! I have fished that spot for a while. Orange has always been my go to color there, but like you said it hasn't been as good for whatever reason this year. I usually catch on my downrigger 8-12' and 100+ feet back. I haven't had much luck with either presentation you used, so I was very interested in your approach! Thank you for sharing.

@@The_beg_jr it’s a derby lake and there are still tagged fish in the lake that get you a small gift certificate from wdfw. The public ramp is on the sw side of the lake and we haven’t fished much in the south end as it’s pretty shallow and we like to troll. The north end gets to about 25 feet and fishing can be excellent. I’ve done best trolling small plugs like kwikfish and mag lips and thin profile spoons like needlefish or trigger spoons from FishHuntShoot.com. Water temp should be consistent top to bottom since it’s shallow so the fish will likely be relating to structure more than depth. That being said 15ft or so is a good place to start if you’re gonna troll a bit. There was some osprey and otter pressure last year so that may keep them off the surface unless there’s a breeze and a chop. We haven’t fished it this year so I’m interested to hear how you do. It’s a great small lake fishery with fish into the several pounds on a good day. Let us know how you do!

As a note, on this trip the lake was about 10 ft from full pool. In the next video 2 weeks later it’s only a couple feet from full and it makes a difference in the fishing when the water changes that much in. Suck a short time. Lake Roosevelt is managed as a hydro power resource and lake levels are close to full approaching the forth. Google the lake level on any man made reservoir and take note of how it impacts the fishing

As you can see we were catching fish but all fairly small. First time fishing it and one outing does not a trend make so I’m excited to give it another go when the water warms a few degrees. To be fair, we were both fishing fairly shallow which is what the temp would indicate to me but I suspect a bit more diversity in depths would have benefitted my catches that day. Still getting used to the kayak so I’m not as apt to change up or try as many things due to my comfort level with it. If I went again tomorrow I would try a weighted presentation down the center channel a little deeper with a spoon or spinner. Of course conditions and temp will dictate where they are. I saw quite a few good marks 15-20 and I can’t wait to get down there again. If you’ve fished it and found success, leave us a comment. Absolutely gorgeous piece of water.

@gigharborfishinclub989
@gigharborfishinclub989 5 месяцев назад
Chartreuse was always a go to color for me but I’ve been tending toward pink and orange more the last year or so. Like all color and lure selections it can be a self fulfilling prophecy. I’m catching more on pink right now. Why? I fish it more often😂. Logs seem to indicate to me that all three colors work just about as well most of the time when a brighter presentation is indicated so we all tend to fish our preferences. For me it’s more about light vs dark of muted vs bright and flashy. That being said, as you know there are days or fisheries where specific colors are what they want and all they’ll hit. When you find that spot you stick with what’s working. Keeping a fishing log gives us data points to develop strategies and prove our gut feelings. Thanks for the intel on your luck with chartreuse in Sammamish. Time to break out of my pink streak!

Hi. Fishing Erie. Trolling dips, & plugs off of boards. MOST OF US are using Saltwaters 303. They are holding up pretty good, no problems for years. Looking at the Convectors now. Need 4. I was waiting for you to comment on the Convector crank ratio, & the ease of cranking in say 300' with a 10#er on the end.? We are getting older everyday!! Hi speed kills our hands! 303s are something like 5.1 to 1. NICE slow, & easy. Hows the difference in crank speeds working out for you? Comment? The other thing,,,, The Saltwaters have such a large spool,,, It's such a PITA to constantly put on the exact amount of backing, & then 300yds of 30# braid that we normally use,,,,, & STILL have the line counter exactly on! What amount of braid, (Superslick) at 20 or 30# size, would we need to run on the Convector spools in order to get the counter right on? Thanks for the review,,, but we just need a whole bunch more answers from someone who is actually using them. ;>)

Hi, Does this technique count as another rod? In the places I fish, a traditional slider does not count as another rod.
@gigharborfishinclub989
@gigharborfishinclub989 8 месяцев назад
Well it depends. You can use this rigging with a single rod and leave the ball down. Or you can rig one rod conventionally on the rigger ball/cable the stack a SECOND rod on the same downrigger at a lesser depth. The slider you describe is I believe rigged off of the mainline on a single rod and still counts on a single rod as long as one rod and mainline is used. Check your regs but if I recall 2 or 3 hooks is legal on one mainline. As we use the technique, we’re (or Pete is) using two rods where legal. I find 1 rod more fun albeit SLIGHTLY less productive
