I'd say go super slow to maybe get it to grab, or I'd suggest a bigger hook size. ❤️ Im sorry to say that the commercial kit makers dont always provide the correct materials. Sometimes not even enough yarn to finish a project 😑
Those are just test safety eyes. They have a pin back so you can find the right spot on your ami before putting in the actual pair of safety eyes with the backs. They're a great tool!

Hey! A beginner here. I can easily tell that your crochet ball is so smooth and there is no round joining seam. How do you do that? I always get a visible seam across my crochet ball, created by each slip stitch that I make by the end of each round.
In amigurumi, you don't want to join the rounds. I work all my patterns in a spiral/continuous round, which means at the end of each round, I don't do anything and just continue with what the next round states. By not joining, you'll get a smooth ball like you see here! I hope that helps!! 😊😊
