There is no Nashville theatre without Denice Hicks. Thank you for faithfully guiding every artist that’s passed through our city. We’re all indebted to you! It isn’t the end, just the start of a new chapter. ❤

You have given so much to the Arts and to the artists in this community. I even saw you play Lear one night, so the show might go on. You will never be replaced.. much like great Shakespeare himself, no one has come along to fill those shoes either!

What a fabulous job you have done. I have learned alot from your support of Shakespeare even though I have not been able to participate more. I fairly recently read "Shakespeare Saved My Life" You are one of a kind. Frankie

Oh Denice! I understand completely the desire to lay down some of the work for whomever comes next. What a grand foundation you have laid. And how fun to think about what’s next… for you and for our community as the next leaders step up. Onward indeed!

Thanks for everything you've done over the past few decades, Denice! I feel so fortunate to have gotten involved with the NSF as a volunteer and participant in Shakespeare Allowed!, and a big part of what kept me coming back was your warm, welcoming nature. Best wishes in all your future endeavors!

Thank you so much. French here. Shakespeare belongs to everyone not only the English. As a French I don't have any issues with that either (and God knows how we the French have had issues with the Brits). He is bigger than his time and place of birth.

I saw her produce a video about the Battle of Corinth--at least I think that was Mrs. Hicks--a few year ago. It was excellent. Wonderful voice.

I love this discussion. I am a near 60 years old African American woman who grew up in the inner city of Newark, NJ thus being fortunate to have an African American High School Teacher in 9th grade during the late 70s who introduced us to Shakespeare and instilled a beautiful, love of a Shakespeare foundation. She loved Shakespeare and shared that love with her students. We enjoyed reciting Shakespeare in class. To this day, I love reading Shakespeare and watching plays. My love to that Newark, NJ high school teacher 😊

Awesome video. Both Edward de Vere / Earl of Oxford (the man who is supposed to have written the work) and William Shakspere-cum-"Shakespeare" (the man who nowadays is supposed to have been the Earl's front man as the author) were BLACK MEN. I've learned Queen Elizabeth, herself, was a Black woman. Albeit, they may have been brown to light-skinned (as Black people sometimes will be). But they were all Black and I'm so glad Black people are waking up to who they are Biblically, and who they were historically. A much needed video, even if it is just touching the surface of questioning the past, and making connections to things and people that could make you realize how comparable we are, and how not so alien Black people are to basically everything in the world. Bravo, my people.
