Hello, do you have the complete video? I tried to go on your website but it said that address is not correct. I'm realloy intersted in having this complete concert in video.
Wow - BBC Late Show, '94...I thought I was a pretty good player at the time and then I saw this and remarked to drummer flatmate that perhaps I needed to reappraise my opinion.
I was there....and I didnt know what to expect. Musician friends who had heard the first albums, told me it should be great. And it was for sure :-) I went nuts with the albums later on, and have played several of the tunes on gigs though the 90´s. Rosenblatt played great, and Marc Johnson who replaced Anthony Jackson this night was also fantastic.
Just discovered Jimmy Knepper as a result of Nick Finzer's current project on the great trombonist J J Johnson. In an interview from the '80s JJ was very enthusiastic about Jimmy's sound quality and understated performance - even warming up on a single note sounded really good. JJ said “interesting trombone player”, “sounds like a french horn...so dark, marvellous... one of the underrated dudes of all time”. Interviewer Tom Everett (bass trombonist) pointed out Knepper's classical background, and that he practised Bach cello suites a lot
Tony has left us today. For those with ears open to new ways of shaping sound into music, he opened doors we never even knew existed. Working with him was intense, joyful, sometimes challenging, but in the end alway full of rewards. I will miss him very much.
