I once heard someone say that if art has to do with anything, it has to do with being human. Sometimes I find it hard to pray...I try to impress God with all the right words...and sometimes I'm just not really all that sure that God is really concerned about being entertained. I just don't think it's an easy thing to impress God Almighty. Maybe what I mean is....What I think we often forget is that we don't have to impress him. He's already knocked out about you! If he was cultured- if he was as civilized as most Christian people wish he was-he would be useless to Christianity. God is a wild man! He takes the junk of our lives, and he makes the greatest art in the world out of it....~♥~
I made it to retirement after 34 years full service in the UK fire brigade. I was kinda blown up once by a portable propane tank explosion; burnt (moderately) twice; and showered with debris following a roof collapse (it nearly split my fire helmet in 2). But the toughest part of my job was sending other people into harms way as a watch commander. I watchedthis movie at work and at the end you could hear a pin drop. No one said a word! 😢
What must it feel like to write an extraordinary piece of music such as this? She had already written a LOT of material that was years ahead of its time and was highly successful up to this point in her career but I wonder if Tori Amos herself knew that this would be one of those songs that transcends time and space and never seems to tire or grow old. This track may have not been a huge radio hit or chart topper but it's strength lies in it's ability to pull you below the surface and into the depths of the deepest heartache for a love that's been lost forever...something that we can all relate to. It's no wonder that it's become regarded by many songwriters and music critics as a perfectly written 4 minute masterpiece.
My father (God bless him!) lived to be 95. So, as I'm only 30 years younger, this song now has twice as much signficance for me as it did three years ago when I first heard it on a posting here. Thanks for everything, Dad. 🙂
I have one more day of the radiation treatments I've been having. I have been singing hymns or praying. There were a few times I felt defeated & these words would enter my thoughts & just keep repeating like the song. I remember the song from the movie the shack, but I don't know any of the other lyrics. I truly believe these words were sent to me by the Holy Spirit...I just repeated the words & thought of Jesus. Thank you, Father! ✝️❤🕊️
This piano 🎹 ballad called “1000 Oceans” (1999) was inspired by a dream 💭 Tori Amos had one morning. An old African woman came to her humming a melody and murmuring words in some language Amos could not decipher. However, she understood that the elderly lady was SEARCHING FOR A LOST LOVE. Upon waking up, Amos recorded the melody and started trying to figure out the lyrics. Dixit the American singer-songwriter: “Finally I understood when I got the phrase ‘THROUGH THE SOLAR FIELD.’ It all completely aligned, because I knew we were following maps. I was hunting down what the song was trying to tell me.” She added : “There’s always galactic reference going on this record. There’s a scientific vocabulary going on in [the album ‘To Venus and Back’]. ‘Suede’ is about seduction, but there’s always a science reference, a physics reference, because that’s the realm of Venus. So I hung maps all over, and I knew I didn’t have it right, coming up with things. Then finally I got that whatever dimensions the song had to cross to find the being that [the African lady in the dream] was devoted to, whether it was her mother or her sister or her lover or her friend, nothing could stop her. That kind of RESILIENCE was a real anchor for the record.” WORTHY OF MENTION… In the music video, one of the onlookers is none other than MEGHAN MARKLE❗️ Back then, the Duchess of Sussex was still an up-and-coming actress. Within the first minutes of the clip, she appears on the left side of the screen, wearing a navy blue shirt and looking in at Tori… 💜🌊💚
