Founded by producer Manfred Eicher in 1969, ECM Records has released more than 1 thousand albums that span many idioms. Establishing an early reputation with standard-setting jazz recordings by Keith Jarrett, Paul Bley, Jan Garbarek, Chick Corea, Pat Metheny, The Art Ensemble of Chicago and more, ECM began issuing contemporary compositions in the late '70s - including Steve Reich's landmark "Music for 18 Musicians". ECM New Series was launched in 1984, and has become a platform for recordings of composed music that ranges from the pre-Baroque era to the present day. The label's distinguished performers include Kim Kashkashian, András Schiff, Gidon Kremer as well as The Hilliard Ensemble.
Actually, the melodic line played by that Duduk sounding clarinet from 0:34 onward, sounds like Indian music too, like a G.S. Sachdev or Hari Prasad Chaurasia raga. I like the gusto bass clarinet playing from Sclavis like on some of his past recordings that I consider "Contemporary Heavy Metal Jazz" (!), Napoli's Walls and L'affrontement des prétendants comes to mind (both on ECM too), but it's nice to have those tasty quieter colors here played on the "regular" clarinet. Hope everyone knows you cant just blow into a trumpet and get a sound like this. You have to become enlightened first, then blow into a trumpet, and you get a sound like this.
First time I set foot in a bar was 1985 in Kansas to hear Towner's solo. He had piano, Prophet-5 and sequencer, and I think three guitars, one prepared with matchbooks in the strings. I loved both the 70s Oregon, and later a lot of the Towner projects as well as the Gurtu Oregon.
Diese Performance finde ich gut, obwohl mich zunächst die erotische Pose etwas abgestoßen hat. Aber ich wundere mich seit langem, dass zu Jazz so wenig getanzt wird. Dabei gibt es viele Stücke auch von Ralph Towner, Avisha Cohen usw., zu denen zu tanzen ich sehr reizvoll finde. Gut, dass es hier mal interessant und ja etwas frivol erotisch vorgetragen wird, müsste nach meinem Geschmack nicht sein, aber allein der Tanz zu dieser Musik ist richtig.
