Founded in 1992, the Southern Wisconsin Butterfly Association or SWBA educates and involves members of the public in butterfly concerns. We offer speakers, run field trips and counts open to the public, and survey lepidopteran populations throughout the Badger state. Our videos help viewers learn to identify butterfly species, understand ecological issues, and enjoy their time outdoors while gaining knowledge.

As a chapter of the North American Butterfly Association, we stress the importance of not disturbing butterflies and do not condone contact with the insects. We use cameras and binoculars to help us observe and document butterfly populations throughout the state. Many members submit their findings to wisconsinbutterflies.org -- a website for citizen science run by Mike Reese.
