Would you be able to explain your weight-flasher-leader connection? I run 2 feet between weight and flasher and it seems you run less but still get good flasher action
Sir when is the season opening for surf smelt this year? I tried to check on WDFW website but found only freshwater, wanna try this some day in summer, thank u
Thanks for your comments. 1. It can be a disadvantage to squid alone. Most of the time, a school is constantly moving. When dropping a jig on top of a school, the ones closest to the jigs will take interest and try to grab on. Other squids in the vicinity will see this and join in, thus creating a feeding frenzy. When the hooked squids are reeled up, some will follow up to a point and disengage. The time it takes to reel up the catch and get the jigs back down can take some time. Depending on the school biomass and/or where within the mass (center vs edge), by the time the jigs reach depth, they might have moved on. Imagine as the hooked squids are reeled up and another set (or two, three, or more) of jigs comes sinking down. Multiple sets of jigs will keep the school engaged in a feeding frenzy. 2. Passive vs active squidding -- passive is where a boat drifts or anchors while jigging and waits for a school to come by. Active is searching for them using sonar. The white boat is part of a cluster of 5+ boats that typically anchor in that area and wait for a school to come by. When they do, the number of jigs that hit the water creates a feeding frenzy that keeps the school engaged for a longer time. Sometimes I join this group of boats when I see them catching. 3. I was with these boats in about 90' of water prior to this video clip. As the action stopped, I circled around the boats, looking for another school. I found a large school 30-50' away in 120 fow. After catching doubles and triples, all the boats came out to keep the feeding frenzy going.
Very nice presentation with helpful information. The background music added emotional intrigue nicely accompanying the video. It was excellent. I enjoyed it very much. My hat off to you sir!
Awesome work! I think I saw y'all out there, I was on a white/black kayak. I've watched all your videos and learned allot. Legend! Thanks for the awesome videos
Can you explain the herring rig a bit more? Looks like a single hook through the mandible then back into the head above the eye socket? Is the other hook just free hanging in the back? What causes the spin in this rig? Great videso!
Yes. Yes. The way the hook is positioned, pulling the rig through water; the head causes friction and imparts the spin. Hard to explain, so just set it up and watch it as you drag it through the water. Thanks for watching.
Wow those are nice fish! I feel like whenever I hook up on a king in the ocean my landing rate is terrible! Would you mind sharing what pole you use? My arm always feels like it's going to fall off after a few hours of jigging.
The rod is a "GooFish" PE2-4 bought on Amazon. I can relate to tired arms and shoulders. When that happens, I switch to either mooching and/or trolling for a while, then back to jigging.
Hello! I just moved to Kingston recently also and am looking to go fish the point soon as well. Also have a kayak if you’d be interested in meeting up and fishing.
Thank for the underwater video Pixster .... the Buzz Bomb has to be one of the worst marketed products around. Just came across the BB tonight. I will have to buy a few for Browns, Rainbow, Stripers here in NE Tennessee. Buzz Bomb kind of looked like a Spybait --- minus the propellers in the underwater video segment. In the market for a new spinning rod for Float N Fly , Dropshot , flinging a Zoom fluke for Stripers near the surface. Being 64 years old i love cork handles. Tell me about your Velocity rod & perhaps one more i should consider :)
The Velocity rod just works for me for lake fish (I usually fish saltwater for larger fish). I don't have much experience with other rods. Good luck with finding one that fits your style of and species you target. Thanks for your comments.
