One thing I didn’t understand about something Cantore said at around 2 minutes… he said that Hugo didn’t produce a lot of storm surge and that’s just not true. The storm surge on the SC coast in Hugo was absolutely devastating… the highest surge of 20.2 feet in McClellanville is still the highest storm surge every on the eastern seaboard

Here in Chalmette Louisiana i remember when those bans came in one at a time it felt like the storm had a gas pedal, it would hit, then back off, hit again then back off, untill the throttle was to the floor with no letting up..

I remember calling myself a stupid son of a bitch for staying here in my home in Chalmette.. at 2am thats when i realized how stupid it was an it wasn't arriving till 8:30 or 9:30am.. Thank goodness it hit during morning day light.. There was 2 levees east of my home, the 1st levee defense was 4.3 miles east of my location an the 2nd levee its 1.1 miles from my home.. Both levees where built for a cat 2.. It was only 12feet high each levee,, an sure enough the surge traveled 5 miles from east to west an the water made it to the Mississippi River levee on the east side of the river which was mind blowing only 4 homes in my parish of St.bernard was untouched...I was 31 yrs old at that time so I knew I'd make it... I spent 4 days 3 nights on my roof fighting off snakes the first 2 days sitting on the tip of my roof with 13 feet of water under me.. At night it was scary as oh hell.. I can hear bubbling sounds coming from all around.. Basically when the water started coming up i just went outside an left a latter out against the house to get on the roof instead of the freaking attic. I wasn't going in the attic, f..k that.. It took 35min for it make 13feet plus 2 foot waves inside my neighborhood thats little over 4 miles away from the first levee which was hit with a 18-20 ft surge... ive only had 3 real bad nightmares the pass 19 yrs.. my first one i had a dream somebody's hand grabbed my leg while sitting on roof.. The 2nd dream i had snakes crawling over me on the roof.. The 3rd dream i woke myself up screaming.. Not too bad only 3 nightmares an that happened all within the first 2 months... THE END..
