They are direct-diode lasers, which generally have fatter beams than DPSS lasers like the common 532nm green pointers. The beam diameter is mostly determined by the focusing lens arrangement. The beam diameter is also inversely related to beam divergence; the thicker you make the collimated beam, the less it diverges. That's why beam expanders are used to reduce divergence.

7:33 eBay sellers always sell as a 5 mw laser because of the guidelines they have to follow. In reality, they're extremely overspex and that laser definitely looks like it's more than 30 mw.
Did you get the pocket version? Either way that thing is awesome. You won’t regret it. Just make sure you get the correct battery for it. And do not insert it the wrong way.

I received one of these as a gift. I’m trying to figure out its use case even though I think it’s impressive tech and the metal machining is basically perfect. What are people using these for? All I can think of is a flare substitute in a SOS situation.
I use them all the time for astronomy. Pointing out stars makes it so easy. Also, kids love them. It’s definitely a good thing to have if you want to get peoples attention. Whether for vehicle accidents or just for fun.
@@digitaldazzle5836 thanks. Yeah I’m trying to learn a bit of safety before I play with it. The risk/reward seems a bit wild on the surface. I ended up with the Sanwu 800mw 445nm Blue.
On my 2022 CBR600RR I didn't take no screws out I loosen the screws a little to have some work space then fish the wire from front to back and zip ties the wire away from the engine.
I saw sanwu sells a 1.2 watt 520nm and a 1.8 watt 525nm. I read somewhere (maybe on LPF) that the 525nm diode doesn’t last as long as the 520nm. I’m assuming they mean at the same output. Any info on that? I’d love to get the 1.8 watt 525nm.
Exactly. I get what they mean when they say it won’t last as long, but that doesn’t usually factor in our case. We won’t use these diodes for commercial use. Just strictly for pleasure. I doubt you’ll ever wear out the diode unless you accidentally flip polarity or something. Honestly, I rarely ever use it and still have it to this day. It gets old after a while.
I love how you're not wearing safety goggles for these lol. Even though I don't like them, I'd recommend wearing it when burning something. A lot of that reflection can hurt your eyes and possibly cause some eye damage.
In my opinion I think you're ok. If it seems to too bright to stare at then definitely wear eye protection. Otherwise I've never been hurt yet. Sometimes people over react with those things. Just be careful not to point it at anyones eyes. Lol.
