Of Course, Roswell is special to me. I was born in 1946 in Roswell, New Mexico 10 months before the "crash." I lived one block from the fire chief (Dewire) that tooksome "artifacts" from the crash site. I was oblivious to all of this until 1980 when The Roswell Incident by Charles Berlitz and William Moore was published.
Excellent points, although most of your statements in the final part will apply to any musician whose music does not fit into the 60 second framework, not just the long form composers. RU-vid can be an excellent tool to build up a small but dedicated fanbase that may some day support you going full time. To achieve this, you have to understand how YT works and then hone your craft accordingly. As football coach Fred Pentland said when he took over as manager of Athletic Bilbao in the early 1920s: Get the basics right, the rest will follow.
My father (born 1919) loved the long song. He was an early adopter of rock music (and took me to a number of concerts). He loved the long cut more than anything. Pink Floyd - Meddle, for example, was one of his favorite to have a nap to. My personal favorites are the Walk On medley (from Boston's 4th album) and a very unknown Changing Reels (Chilliwack). Honorable mention to Space Truckin' (Deep Purple).
Terry Ott. How lucky am I to live in Milwaukee where A5BB is based. In/around here we can see them every few weeks or months. I’m almost 82 and finding them just a few years ago means I need to see them every single time I can make it happen. You should too. Coming up soon is an appearance at Buddy Guy’s Legends in Chicago. Good lord willing, I’ll see y’all there!

Fascinating topic. Mary Spender, herself an Indie artist, talks about this regularly on her channel. There is a related phenomenon in the literary world, where a number of authors that could get a publisher if they wanted to choose to self-publish. Wherever a label still makes a good job of developing an emerging artist the results can be amazing. Watch f.ex. the Japanese vocal and dance outfit Atarashii Gakko!, signed by 88rising, gaining a global audience in the last two or three years after being confined to the Japanese market the first seven years of their existence. They tour North America as I write this and played their first ever gig in Germany three months earlier in Cologne where I was delighted to see them live. This is the result of a careful and competent development by professionals. The wonderful Mary Spender, working on her own, has managed to make a living out of her art, too, publishing her first studio album earlier this year and actually selling enough copies to recoup her investments, including a run of vinyl LPs. When she announced a tour, I was sure she would also travel continental Europe, as young and upcoming British artists have done for decades. But sadly that tour is limited to her native UK. Beeing responsible for a tour and the financial side of it for the first time is no doubt daunting enough if it just covers your own country. Brexit sure did not help things either, so it's understandable. But with a professional label behind her, this would probably have looked different. So "screw the labels"? No. But the truth is that the shift away from music as a physical product has ruined the buisness model of labels, who used to have a sort of monopoly on the means to distribute music commercially. There is not enough money in subscription streaming, so the huge funds that used to be invested in emerging artists are no longer there. As a result, many young artists have to fend for themselves buisnesswise. Some may acually like it, others just don't have the choice. Please continue this series!
Love these two...foolish question: why haven't they done an NPR Tiny Desk concert yet ? All I can find online is their Tiny Desk competition entry ?
I can think of at least two successful rock bands that were trios - Rush and ZZ top. I am also aware of an excellent up and coming rock band that is a trio - The Warning. So it is not necessarily needed to have multiple guitars!
My friends and I used to call them "Line-ride and Skine-ride" just for fun (don't know why the "and" but we just did). Bonus Trivia: it was the name of their High School Gym teacher which they all hated.
Without a second guitarist, there are no double guitar solos: Two different sounding guitars that at first play alternately but harmonize together towards the end. "No bullets fly" by Sabaton and "Akatzuki" by Babymetal come to mind. John Mayer's 2010 live performance of "Slow dancing in a burning room" at the LA Forum does not have a real double guitar solo, but the way he and rhythm guitarist Rory MacIntlosh (?) interact is downright amazing. So yes, two guitars.
Ok! I love it but!..... You were doing just fine before. I kind of liked it tone down a bit. I just like looking at your face when you sing. just me. You guys are the best.
37:30 To think for even a moment this song is about "conflict between blues and his religious faith" is classical brain dead. It's easy to do too -- as long as you never listen to the words of this song... I can tell you what this song is _really_ about. It's about throwing God and Gospel out of the church and replacing them with social justice and feminism. The _Current Thing_ is our new God! Those people are too proud and cocky to be honest about it and actually abandon Christianity. No, they will make a point by keeping Christianity and wearing it outwardly as a skin suit. _Who are you to tell me I'm not a Christian!?_ When people point it out it's all hollow, just a fake cover for a deeply atheist political show they say, but but but you have bad people in your real churches too! Preachers who don't actually believe, who are in it only for money! See!? So who are you to call us out!? That's what this song is actually all about. It's an excuse in a form of a song...
Josh is a rare, rare diamond. I can't begin to express how much this man's raw talent has affected me. The people who play with him are the cream of the crop. They produce true "Music"! I sincerely hope Josh continues his work as it brings joy and happiness to all who listen. Thanks for making an old mans day.
He has the magic ability to make old music sound new again. I love him and all of his “partners in crime”. His music is always wonderful and brings out the best in every song. 💗💗💗
While I#ve known Sina and El Estepario Siberiano for a while, my biggest takeaway would be Emil. He isn't just drumming, he is delivering a whole show performance, looking even cooler than his drumming alone already is.
Josh and everyone he plays with are amazing at so many different instruments, the vocals are always on point, and their energy is great. Highly recommend their stuff, and their band the other favorites
Both sisters learned violin at age 3. They also learned a little piano before they picked up strings and fell into blue grass music. Megan struggled with fretting but she discovered the dobro which lead to the lapsteel, which she modified to carry. Rebecca won awards playing banjo and mandolin before transitioning to first acoustic then electric guitar. She can play some slide. She started on a Jazzmaster because they toured early on with Elvis Costello, who mentored them. She wouldn't play solos, in part because she felt intimidated by Megan's prowess on slide. She was good enough back then but lacked the self-confidence. It's only been in the last few years Rebecca came out of her shell to play solos. Now, she's mainly a Strat girl with bridge humbuckers, a sparkling Telecaster, and a Gretsch. Catch some of her YT shorts with her just noodling and you'll be blown away. LP got a big boost from their early YT series, "Tip 'O' the hat" covers, usually played in a hotel room recorded on a phone. My first two LP experiences were "Sound of Silence" and "Little Wing" which lead to "Preachin' Blues". Then I stumbled on Rebecca covering Johnnie B Goode and I was hooked. LP was and still is shunned by the big money in music because since the start, they refused to sign with record companies, electing to create their own company, Trickie-Wood Records so they own all their music and maintain absolute control. It has finally provided much needed cash to upgrade their stage show as well. Megan married Mike Seal, who is a very quiet, unassuming master guitarist. He has played with Jerry Douglas for years. Rebecca married bad boy Tyler Bryant, who's influence can clearly be seen and heard. They are students of American music, especially the blues and call themselves "Roots Rock". They can play you a blistering rock number then follow it with a soulful bluegrass excursion if they feel like it. Whatever they allow you to hear has been rehearsed until it is fit for public consumption. They are very precise and disciplined. They carry great cache' with industry icons and are very highly respected. They've gone through a few drummers but bassist Tarka Layman has been with them about 8 yrs.

Good to see this channel is still alive! Awesome list! I knew about Violet and Daria, but have to check out the others. My personal favourite at the moment would be Saiki from Band Maid, but she is probably not "emerging" anymore, while Chrissy Costanza of Against the Current is great, but not exactly a typical "Rock" voice.
Thanks, Ralf! Yes, we took a little time to make some changes that we think will help us better achieve our goals of helping emerging artists connect with new fans while also helping fans discover new artists. We hope you enjoy what we have coming out through the rest of this year!
Yea this guy is a pro. Great set of pipes and can play his ass off. These guys sound great. I would wish him luck but he don't need luck, he's that good. Good luck anyway. Very happy he has been "discovered". He could make a great living just doing covers. He could get booked most anywhere for real good money. He reminds me a bit of Buddy Holly. By the way those side people playing with him are golden.
His song Rockaway has become a regular play on my playlists. I'm not sure who's responsible for the arrangements on that track but they are so so good! Amazing talent!
