The problem isn't economic, nor is it passion per my experience. What's the problem is pursuing one without the other. Because, at the end of the day, we need both hedonia and eudaemonia to live fulfilled lives. That's why having an upper hand in one without the other is problematic, and you can't be happy.
@JoeBarnesAuthor

It's a great point. I would say it's easier to be happy with enough money to cover your living expenses and having a passion you enjoy each day than being super rich but not having any meaning for your life.

I came to the UK from a coffee and cigarette culture and my university education in the UK consisted primarily of learning how to binge drink and be relatively functional with a hangover. Having adopted this bad habit via socialization, I only managed to get rid of it 15 years later, when I was back in Greece and realized this habit was destroying my life. The secret to getting rid of alcohol? Don't aim for moderation. Aim to quit it 100%. Simply say NO to the first drink. The first drink brings the second, and the innevitable third opens the doors of chaos. This also applies to cigarettes, which I also managed to quit. Congrats for being a non-drinker in one of the most alcoholic countries in Europe. Not the easiest thing to do. The whole culture in the 00s used to be centered around the pub, the bar, the club, the off licence. Alcoholism is the UKs number-one problem and must be responsible for at least half of the crime and a large part of the burdain on the NHS.

Great to get a foreign perspective. I felt like an alien in the late 90s and 2000s living in the UK. Couldn't understand why teens and 20 year olds drinking themselves into oblivion was considered fun. Thanks for your advice on quitting. As a hypnotherapist, it's useful to learn about your experience so I can help my clients. Well done for stopping. Most people can't, especially not both. Thanks again for supporting the channel.

Yesterday, I remembered a guy I had watched online back in 2014 with the name of Victor Pride. Never really watched/read him much, but he was a memorable chap. I googled his name to see what had happened to him, and in the process came across your video about his work. I liked it, so I watched some more of your videos thinking "this guy seems to be on a similar wave length as me". Five videos in and I see you walking in my neck of the woods. Hope you liked Halkidiki! Regards from Thessaloniki!

@portcontainer9727 4 месяца назад
@@JoeBarnesAuthor Your videos are awesome! Keep them coming! As for Pride, he went full Christian and dropped everything, didn't he? Quite radical! An extreme guy! The same happened with a guy called Roosh V who was popular at the same time in the "manosphere" as a PUA. I think I heard about both of these guys through Aaron Clarey's early videos - when he started plugging others' stuff during his rants. Had they become Orthodox at least, they could become monks on Mt Athos (third "leg" of Halkidiki) and had a permanent holiday in the sun for free. 🙂 No bills, no taxes, no worries. Actually, Roosh did become Othodox but I think he joined Armenian Orthodoxy which is a little different from the Greek/Russian brand. The one thing I know is that we are living in some really weird times, so people joining religions doesn't shock me much. Brits advising citizens to have 3 days of food in homes and the talk of bringing back conscription says something about what's coming. Anyway, I've pestered you enough. I'll pester you some more under another video, as I plan to go through them all! Keep up the great work! Be well! PS Very glad you guys liked it at Sani!

@@portcontainer9727 I look forward to seeing which one you pop up on! Thanks for taking an interest. Btw, would you recommend the second "leg/finger" of Halkidiki to visit? We heard some good things but never got around to visiting.
@portcontainer9727
@portcontainer9727 4 месяца назад
@@JoeBarnesAuthor The second "leg" is considered by most to be better than the first in terms of nature and general atmosphere. Good place to rent a car and drive to the various villages/towns and beaches. I think both legs are well worth exploring, but the second one has the better rep. You can also do a boat tour of the third leg (Mt Athos - the most ancient and most rugged gentleman's club on the planet) if you drive to Ouranoupolis. But, yes! The second leg is definitely worth exploring. 🙂
@portcontainer9727

I have to say I have never been a huge fan of MJ. I have no idea why, but someday few months ago I decided to listen the whole Thriller album and it was mind blowing. Every single song was so good. Then I listened other albums and all his stuff. And I loved it. Since then I can say I am a huge fan, not only his music, his amazing dancing but also him as a person. Below my list: 1. Thriller (Billie Jean is my favourite song ever even then I wasn't MJ fan) 2. Off the wall (I love Don't stop... and Rock with you, but also Off the wall and Can't help it are great songs) 3. Bad (amazing album, Man in the mirror is my favorite song, but also like The way u make me feel, the latter is also Stevie Wonder favourite MJ song ;) but all the songs are really great 4. Dangerous (my favourite songs are: Who is it, Remember the time, Will you be there (shorten version)). These are lots of great songs on this album, but I don't like new jack swing style in it. 5. History (Stranger in Moscow) I found your channel after watching Square One doc. You did great video about it. Thank u.

Thank you so much for this video, and your channel in general. I'm part of the Poor category (I'm from KwaMashu in Durban South Africa) and my life really has not been easy. At the current moment I am a student at the university of Cape Town (my tuition is being paid by the government financial Aid scheme), and I feel so liberated in acquiring all of this knowledge that explains why my family is in this situation/circumstance (it is because of colonialism, racial capitalism, and apartheid). Now I know, an I'm trying the best that I can to make a better life not only for myself and my family but for everyone in the same situation that I am in. My goal is to educate and inform as many people as I can through creative mediums like literature, film, television and art so that people can feel inspired to create some change and your previous video on "How the world works" gave me an invaluable piece of advice on how I can do that (thank you). MJ was a victim of a bad, manipulative system and media. Why? Is it because he was black? 😪😢
@JoeBarnesAuthor

Possibly but I think it has more to do with the media seeing a target and going for it. They lied about him constantly and those lies sold papers and drew views. Sad and disappointing seeing you go from how the world works to this. Clearly trying to pander to his crowd. 1) In the first point you talk about the subject solely from the point of view of men. What about the other 50%. Women? How about the children? These points are made as if all men are these honorable people who would do right by their partner and children even if the law does not intervene. Well breaking news. That is not accurate. Women have a lot more to lose by NOT getting married to a person with whom they breed than men. Men can easily abandon their family and children and go on to start a new life with little to no social impact on their lives. Women? Not so easily. Yes marriage is not perfect but it could be argued it is the best way to insure that people do right by their responsibility in this imperfect world. 2) Depression IS a disease. It affects only a certain portion of the population. Yes there are horrible doctors out there that are quick to push meds on people as the only option. There are also plenty of good ones that recommend things like exercise, good nutrition, finding a sense of purpose as good aids to combat the disease. The "willing away, strong mental blabber"Tate and you go on about is probably as harmful as pushing meds on people without the right context. 3) the good old i am being censored, I am the victim. The irony is that You do realize that he was for a while one the most popular people on most social platforms right? You say "do you believe social media has our best interest at heart?" My answer is no. They are a platform and their main goal is profitability. Now let me ask you this question. Do you believe Tate has his followers best interest at heart? Follow the money my guy. Just sad seeing you lick his boots for a bit of relevance.
@JoeBarnesAuthor
@JoeBarnesAuthor 10 месяцев назад
Thanks for your well thought out comment and for watching my other videos. While I think your language is a little extreme (I'm no boot licker lol), your points are interesting. Before I address them, please be aware I wrote a blog post on why you SHOULDN'T listen to Andrew Tate. You may find it more to your liking. escapethesystemnow.com/3-reasons-why-you-shouldnt-listen-to-andrew-tate/ 1. So you're stuck between a rock and a hard place. Either men get screwed by getting married or women get screwed by not getting married. Surely there's got to be a better way and his challenging of marriage is needed. Marriage can ruin a lot of peoples' lives and, therefore, questions need to be asked. Through these questions, perhaps we can find a better solution. Also, I'd argue it's not so easy for a man to abandon his wife and children. Anyone who has something even closely resembling a conscience is going to feel a lot of guilt at doing that. 2. Of course, depression is real and a big problem. However, it isn't a disease as there are no biological markers for it. Btw, I'm not advocating "willing it away." Instead, I'd advise the suggestions you make and, perhaps, in some extreme cases, medication might help. I definitely think unscrupulous pharma companies are the greatest evil here - not Tate. As you say in your comment "follow the money my guy." They are making billions through convincing the general public depression is a disease and leaving many sufferers worse off through their, quite often, harmful medication. 3. Yes, I agree. Having watched more Tate since this video I think he is out for himself. My guess is he doesn't give a damn about the naïve people that follow him. Thanks again for your comment and for watching. This video was just to bring some balance to the blog post I wrote and also to discuss, what I believe are, interesting issues.
@themplanetz
@themplanetz 10 месяцев назад
@@JoeBarnesAuthorThank you for your response. I would like to first off apologize for my strong language in my initial comment. It's just that I have been a bit fed up lately with so many creators I respected either honestly falling for the guy's trickery or purposely using him as leverage for views. 1) Yes it is a hard one that one. We are flawed creatures. I would like to believe in a world where people did the right thing based on their conscience but unfortunately my experience has been quite the contrary. Lots of us (men and women) do or don't do things solely because they don't want to get in trouble. 2) That's a fair point. Trust me I can't stand the pharmaceutical industry as it is today either. Again thanks for your comment and for being open to discuss these issues.
@JoeBarnesAuthor
@JoeBarnesAuthor 10 месяцев назад
@@themplanetz No worries, I thought you made some great points. I can see why that would annoy you. To some degree, I think the Tate's are running a scam or at least lying to a very naïve audience. One thing I don't get is the amount of money they claim to have (hundreds of millions or close to a billion). That doesn't make any sense to me. From what I can tell, they ran a successful webcamming and online membership business. Perhaps this gives them a fortune in the high tens of millions but figures like $750 million seem BS.

Rejecting religion is a very bad idea and I think you should rethink that or think through it more. I understand where you're coming from but I think it very surface level think at best. You're taking a tangible stance while ignoring the intangible which is a common mistake I find so most do. You say you understand religion but your explanation does show that.
@JoeBarnesAuthor
@JoeBarnesAuthor Год назад
No, it's not surface level thinking. It was a difficult statement to make. Religion has many positives but the stats on poverty and religion are so correlated it seems beyond coincidence. Of course, wealth doesn't automatically relate to a good life so you have a point there. However, the history of religion and it's connection with war and repression tips the balance in my opinion. Overall, it's a negative force.

I'll take all the bad from religion over nukes that can destroy or world a hundred times over. Even though that is true I wouldn't say science is a negative so we need to stop science.
