My opinion about Iron Maiden's body of work is that all of their studio albums are top stuff from the beginning up to "Powerslave". Now, "Somewhere in Time" and "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son" are also terrific albums (actually, I've seen lots of people picking SSoaSS as their top favorite Iron Maiden album). But to me, those albums represent the sound of a band that said everything they had to say at first, and started exploring new stuff (without abandoning their essence, of course) to keep the ball rolling. The exploration exercise came to fruition with SiT and SSoaSS, but to me that's where the band starts losing steam. Still, "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son" is in my opinion the last truly great Iron Maiden album. The follow-up, "No Prayer for the Dying", is the beginning of their decline. Picture it this way: from the debut up to "Powerslave", the band goes in an upward curve. They stay flat on top with SiT and SSoaSS, not going any higher, and "No Prayer for the Dying" is the beginning of their downward curve. Actually, the only song (not album) post-SSoaSS that I consider a true classic is "Fear of the Dark" (and _maybe_ "The Wicker Man", from "Brave New World"). All of the above is my sole opinion, of course. Anyway, Iron Maiden is a staple of heavy metal and I congratulate you for getting into them. A few more opinions to finish my comment: - "Hallowed Be Thy Name", from "The Number of the Beast", is the song that best summarizes Iron Maiden's sound and style. - If I HAD to pick just one Iron Maiden SONG, most likely that would be "The Number of the Beast". I never have enough of it. - "Live After Death", from 1985, is one of the best live rock albums ever. The document of Iron Maiden live at the top of their game ("World Slavery Tour", the tour in support of "Powerslave").
This is one of the best comments I've had. Thank you I will get to all those albums eventually. Time and money lol You hardly see any of these albums in the wild, but you've given me a great path to discover I do really appreciate it
Hi Robert!!! Awesome part II and always cool to see more of your great collection..... I really think based on comments and reviews that the latest Jon Anderson has to be the biggest in a good way music surprise of the year. cheers and be well
A recent listen to Liona Boyd's record yielded a wonderful revelation - a recognizable sound sparked my curiosity, and a glance at the credits revealed the legendary David Gilmour had contributed to the album
What an amazing Maiden voyage you are in for. Lets go...Jump in the cockpit and start up the engines, remove all the wheel blocks there's no time to waste! (A lyric you will discover on their 5th studio lp ...I also highly recommend the live EP "Maiden Japan". The last recordings featuring DiAnno on vocal). Never a bad album imho. Though there are a few that certianly have some warts...but hey with a catalogue like theirs that would seem inevitable if you ask me. My favourite band of all time! Great choices of albums to join the Edheads! Up The Irons! Enjoy. Cheers Robert! 🍻✌️🤘🎶🤘
@twangersturntable thank you for the amazing comment I will check our Maiden Japan. I thought he was a great singer. I plan on enjoying my journey. Loving it so far
Thats awesome you're getting into some Iron Maiden Rob! Number of the beast is one of my favourites, and I love the debut! It was one of the first albums I heard by them. That's cool you like Senjutsu, it's definitely a long epic album, they've done that a lot with their newer albums. 2 albums I recommend, Powerslave (1984) and A Matter of life and death (2006), both I think you would enjoy. Cheers 😁🤘🏻
@RobertsOnMyTurntable Hey Rob! You're welcome man, yeah definitely check them out. You'll like the artwork for them I think, and I'm sure you'll love the albums. If you like Senjutsu you'll be fine with all their later albums. Ah thanks man, I'm doing good thanks. Hope you are too. Cheers, you too 😊🤘🏻
More great stuff! I remember a few videos from the Robbie Robertson album being on heavy rotation on the MuchMusic channel. I also have two great Levon Helm solo albums from the late 2000s: Dirt Farmer and Electric Dirt. One of my favourite solo artists that was previously in a band is Ronnie Lane, from the Small Faces and Faces. His records were really hard to find until they were reissued pretty recently.
Hey! I had some time today to catch up on videos today so had to stop by :) Nice to see all your new and new to you stuff :) Good luck with your patreon too! Xo Ambie
So nice of you to drop by hun. I really appreciate and thank you I felt I needed a change. It will take a while, but I will get that up and running as well Miss talking, hope you are doing ok ❤️
great that you are getting into this awesome band, i have the first ten albums on vinyl that i bought back in the day and others on cd, the first two albums with dianno i think have a punk feel love them, my favourite is somewhere in time just killer and the artwork is amazing, havent got the latest one, cheers robert sorry its been a while
@@RobertsOnMyTurntable I saw Gilmour live on his About Face tour in a pretty small venue. He actually came back out after the encore's most everyone had left, and he did a couple more songs.
Some great selections there Robert! Tom Petty is indeed on Bella Donna on the track Stop Draggin' My Heart Around. I think most of the Heartbreakers were on it as well, Stan Lynch, Benmont Tench as well. Ian Hunter is never given enough love...love his solo work as well.
Hi Robert!!! some big names there for sure... you can make an argument for some artist their solo career was not as big as their previous bands, but they still put out cool music. Twoexamples from this side of music and that shared a same band: Ozzy and RJ Dio, Phil Collins also Sting, cheers and be well
Some of my favorites are Ken Hensley from Uriah Heep-Proud Words Keith Richards-Talk Is Cheap Ian Anderson-Secret Language Of Birds and TAAB2 Jon Anderson-True David Gilmour-Luck and Strange Pete Townshend-Empty Glass
Bob Welch put out some great work. Rod did some great work as well. You can't argue with Paul. I like Bella Donna. Burton Cummings and Randy Bachman both did great work. Short Back and Sides is really good. Roger Hodgsons first solo I thought was great.
Hi Robert!!! Nice to see and hear you have added a nice intro and outro to your videos. Well done, you look and sounds very pro!!!! Nice to see your Todd Rundgren collection and artist i know nothing at all, maybe i have heard a song or two, no sure at all. cheers and be well
Thank you for sharing this Robert. I am a Todd fan and also recommend’A Wizard A True Star’ and a Great live double album ‘Back To The Bars’. Your new format is great. All the best Robert from North Wales.
Good video It's interesting to think hello it's me was a Nazz song written by Todd But Todd knew it was a hit so he decided to put it on something anything redo it a little bit and it was. Yeah that anthology is pretty much all you need unless you're just an absolute die-hard or have to have the discography
Great stuff for sure Robert. For a must have psych album, the original 1969 IRON MAIDEN with their only debut album called " MAIDEN VOYAGE ". This is a totally different band. I was very lucky to get it back about 20 yrs. ago. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Robert!!!! Loved the new setup, intro and outro too..... the mic sounds great and the t-shirt looks cool too, lol!!!! Had no idea about that Nektar release and that was a very good setlist, however it's tough to revisit some huge classic and add them something new..... anyhow, a cool addition to the collection. cheers and be well
Awesome thank you!thank you Cristian. Felt it was time. I'm happy with everything. They do a great job with most of the covers, but some I prefer the original
Hi Robert!!! you might have a "meager" Donovan collection, but now you have another cool artist with more stuff to look after and add!!! he's not an artist i listen or know properly, but i have seeing he's stuff showing very often here in the VC..... cheers and be well
Nice collection, Robert! Donovan is brilliant. His first album and Open Road are a few of my favourites. That live album sounds interesting. Great stuff, Jack
Tons of variety here! I like the Jack White solo records too, and I enjoy that Clapton album a lot - it has some great musicians on it, like The Band, Billy Preston, and Bob Dylan sings on one song. I've been watching out for some Nazz albums too, and I'll be looking for the new David Gilmour the next time I go to town, which should be soon!
