At 3.40 - is that the exact same location used several years earlier in "Robbery" ? On that occasion, it was the police who had the S-type Jag, and the villains had a Mark 2.
@@David_Crayford yes, the man driving the Ford Capri is Lewis Collins, he was also in the 1982 film ‘Who Dares Wins’, playing the main character ‘Peter Skellen’ , an SAS soldier. The film was based on the 1980 Iranian Embassy Siege.
@@Mk7adxm I remember watching the real embassy assault in 1980 that Who Dares Wins is based on. The black watch with the red second hand that he wears is a rare Porsche Design Orfina chrono which is worth several thousands of pounds.
It's interesting seeing how these old british cars handle then watching old american car chases. 70s cars from both countries have a lot of lean and sway, but I think the biggest difference is damping and composure. The Brits, especially the Jag and the Rover, take a set and it takes a really big bump to upset them. American cars of the time would start wallowing and plowing if they hit even a small dip mid-corner.
For a 3 litre engine under 140 BHP, well, you certainly can tell it was a last century car! Mind, it was quite a force to reckoned with back in the day though! Think the professionals was an excellent promotion for this car Very similar to what the Italian Job did for the mini Cooper!
Had a 3 litre Capri was only 138 bhp. Back end moved all over the place! Later got the 2.9i Granada that output 150bhp. Thought they were quick at the time though
i dont know what was more hilarious the oversteer or the understeer of those 70's cars . but it taught us car control . me and my mates would re-enact sweeney car chases in our second hand motors back in the day . mostly down muddy or gravel tracks was easy getting the back end to let got and of cause the wheels spins . great days
Luvved how Bodie took every opportunity every episode to do a roll and shoot. Top notch entertainment and one if the biggest reasons for the popularity of the Capri IMHO
Terrible cars, terrible chase. with clearly speeded up film to make it look faster. The suspension on those things was like a mattress and don't get me started on those 'short-shift' gear sticks.
I loved watching the series. Here in Germany it was called "Die Profis" and in the '80s I had the rare opportunity to talk to Lewis in Bochum, where he announced his movie "Das Kommando".
Real cars, the Granada, the TR7, the Triumph 2500, the Capri - when cars had character. Christ even the fucking Allegro at least had the decency to at least look 'different'.
@@jjohnson-stoker Yeah, the old 'All agrro' with it's "Square steering wheel" that everyone laughed at. But several luxury roadsters now have the same. Pretty much everyone in the '70's or '80's could name a character just by his car. Ian Ogilvy's 'Simon Templar' in 'The Saint' with his white Jaguar XJS, Bodie with his Capri, Doyle with his TR7, The Sweeny with their For Granada, there was also the obligatory 'S-type jag' that was the villain's get away car.
The TR7 was a bag of shite. One of the most unreliable cars that i ever had. Was originally supposed to have the 16 valve dolly sprint set up. Instead BL opted for 8 valve..
I used to love watching this show when I was a kid. 👌😎 My Dad was a Traffic cop at the time and would regularly rock up in a BMW528i for his break time. He had previously drove the Triumph as well but the BMW apparently was on another level performance wise. RIP Sgt Peter Mawdsley. ❤️
Some properly good driving here, you can see the Capri driver brake hard as late possible to get weight on the front end before the handbrake turn. Respect!
To all the experts on here saying that's a 2.0 Capri and not a 3.0 you can clearly see the right hand tail pipe right at the start of the clip, four cylinder Capri's had the exhaust tailpipe on the left hand side (except the Mk1), tailpipe on the right gives it away as a 3.0. You can also clearly see the two pipes at 2:04.
Are these motors straight sixes? I'd have my old Calibre V6 back if I could, auto, you could drive up to Scotland and still get out of it refreshed. Low life insured driver wrote it off.🤬
