I am a private pilot with an instrument rating. I currently fly a single-engine airplane (Grumman Tiger) as a hobby and use it as a family vehicle. I wanted to share my passion and interest with everyone. Hope you enjoy my videos. Blue Skies - AV8OR51!
Great video. Next time come to KARW, the other airport in Beaufort county. Way cheaper, go rentals have cars there. For the beach go to Fripp island or Harbor island. Historic and fun downtown Beaufort close by. My home airport. Safe flying
I learnt to fly in a AA1C, and have flown many light aircraft over 37 years. The grumman tiger would have been the nicest of all of them. Cheers from New Zealand.
The guy was rolling down the runway before takeoff clearance, initial climb at nowhere VY, doesn't turn on transponder until well after departure in ATL airspace, handed off by tower to ATL departure and doesn't contact them. Then tells the person in the right seat the way you tell if you are straight and level is to use the attitude indicator, in CAVU, neither one of them scanning for traffic. He must have had a really lousy flight instructor
a controller telling you "im really busy" right after you tell him indirectly that you have an avionics failure wasn't the most professional from him. It's like you were being a chore for him instead of him helping you.
He was a chore, he wasn’t going to the correct course or altitude and was eating up bandwidth with excuses. In a Bravo they expect you to hand fly safely and accurately if your AP can’t handle the turbulence. You can’t just bounce around wherever you like. He mentions problems maintaining altitude because of break-in, but was actually 200’ above assigned altitude, not below. Stick and rudder skills are critical, AP and magenta line is secondary to that. I don’t know if this was totally on the equipment, seems more on the pilot. If AP kicks off, just fly the plane. This was just a lot of excuses. Still overall a good job, other than getting behind the plane at 5000’.
One thing I didn’t make clear in the video is that I was not in the Bravo during the traffic alert. It took a second to realize my AP not holding and I was over the assigned altitude.
@@AV8OR51A quick look at the charts shows you'd have to fly 20 miles due east of pdk before turning SE to avoid the section of bravo airspace with a floor of 5000'. I don't know if that was the case or not, but the fact that atc immediately cleared you into bravo as soon as you canceled ifr would lead me to believe you were in it. Your good old round dial altimeter right in front of you showed 5700. The citation traffic at 6000' means only 300' of vertical separation and you caused that guy to have to respond to a TCAS Resolution Advisory to avoid your aircraft. The beeping sound in the background when atc was transmitting is warning him of a lack of separation. Switching from ifr to vfr does not absolve you of the responsibility to maintain assigned altitude. It's one thing if your out flying in middle of nowhere but ATL is the busiest airport in the world, as I'm sure you know, and you gotta keep it tight. Having said all that, everyone makes mistakes, and i like your attitude, your humility, and the way you handled the situation with the controller. But don't blame your avionics when you got the information (5700') staring you right in the face. Keep flying, keep learning, and i wish you the best.
Did you investigate the cause of the heading errors? I had this happen to me in our experimental with a GTN750/Dynon Skyview setup when the bag with my wife's hair straightener was placed too near the AHRS. The electric motor or magnets in the hair straightener caused the heading to read 20-30 degrees off and I only noticed by referencing Foreflight. Fixed immediately by shuffling the bag around.
Yes! It’s the bags shifting during takeoff! The magnetometer is located behind the baggage compartment. This has happened before! On the return trip, I made sure nothing is loose & it worked!
Thank you for the video... If in smart watch mode, does the screen time out to completely off ? Or is that setting variable between totally off, or limited dim display ? (If you get what I mean).... (PS - I'm coming from a MIP Instinct gen 1 so switching to an amoled is a tough choice, but am more willing if there is an option for the screen to time out to dim / minimal background).. Thank you in advance.
@@AV8OR51 Thanks for replying, I am interested in buying a Grumman Tiger but I was not abled to find information about stalls and spins, the only articles I found were about the Grumman Yankee
Any plane … with no training or being stupid is a death trap, there is absolutely NOTHING statistically or otherwise proven that it is so. Come visit the American Bonanza Society and ask the 30,000 members. Did you know the Bonanza models have been in continuous production since 1947 to this day, and many 47 models still flying…. 😊
The Grumman Cheetah and Tigers have always been favorites of mine. Do the back seats fold down to make a huge cargo space - as it does on some models? Happy flying.
