My name is Neil Rooney. I live in Dublin, Ireland. I'm training for a marathon PB (3:08:52)

I work as a Physical Therapist and Osteopath and my passion in work is for treating people in pain and people who have running or sports injuries. This channel will explore methods to come back from injury, maximise fitness and ensure good function, while having some fun along the way.

Good session, Neil. Fair point about the hill reps - I've always felt like i shouldn't do it, not it makes complete sense from a leg turnover perspective.

@@IRunDaily yes especially the short reps, get them done as fast as possible with a slight downhill or a tailwind if you can.

@@markg99 yep, speed reps are all about leg turnover - do them. On a slight downhill or with a tailwind if possible and not uphill or into a headwind if you can. 👊

I faff with plans so much! I've not quite found a marathon plan that i can sustain without lots of modifying. Im hoping that over the next couple of marathons I'll find what works for me, rinse, repeat!

Another good video , great your been honest with urself , you know your capable of 3.05 ,concentrate on that , I one tip just focus on this years marathon don’t over think what your going to do after 👌

I wouldn't be prescriptive about what pace you may or may not be able to run in December. Just do the training, evaluate the numbers and go from there.

What kind of half time have you at the moment? Interested to see what lines up with 3:08 marathon training or 3:05

@@thomasoconnell6325 I ran 1hr32 earlier this year. That was off just a load of zone 1&2 base miles and no workouts. My fastest half ever was 1hr26 but that was 6yrs ago around the time when I was running 3:08 in the marathon.

Great update Neil, in fairness you put the hard work in to get over last years set backs. Out of curiosity what were the conditions/ course like for your 3:08 PB?

@@Alan35882 I ran 3:08 twice. The first time was Manchester, very flat and good weather and the second time was Dublin, again good weather that day but on both occasions I wasn't in sub 3hr shape so both marathons I walked a lot.

@@Alan35882 I also ran 3:09 in Dublin the year I ran Chester. That day was 3 weeks after the Chester marathon and I was mentally fatigued. I switched off my watch at 4mi and decided I was pulling out but never did. Ran on feel and just enjoyed the day and finished strong.

That’s some going in fairness. I was wondering would I use the marathon estimator on my watch this year but I think it’ll drive me nuts from the first km.

Went from my 965 to the pace 3.....the Coros is definitely the better running watch

I remember running through Phoenix Park in the Dublin Marathon. Quite a climb I recall. Nice work on the Sub 70..

@@RunSensible mate that does sound good but I don’t feel professional enough for that really to talk about it in depth. I had good results doing MAF but I think it’s because I was new to running. I kind of faded away from it and went ahead with my own made HR whilst following the other principles of MAF so I might not be the best to give advice on the whole subject. Maybe in the future though if I revisit it. Thanks though

Yes it sure is. The last time I was this consistent was 2018. Then I took a year out and then Corona struck. Going in holiday in 2 weeks time and once I get back I have 17 weeks of marathon training before Valencia.
