This may be due to many things. Most common (to get you started) clogged tubes. This happens if you had too concentrated solution and did not run the shampooer with clean water to purge it before storing it. There may be kink in one of the tubes inside the shampooer.
I didn't do all that. I loosen up the bottom as much as I could to slide the belt in, then wiggled it a little bit until it got under the gear and...presto.

And in reference to other lemony comments about the splice job. my replacement cord got it’s long wire reversed. Black is long and whit is super short making it impossible to reach the switch So i had to cut the whites and splice them just like in the vid. Vacuum works great! Thank you
piss poor instructional as no real instruction and crappy "music' blaring in the back ground and mine was different it was gold version 2 and didn't have to cut the white wire but had to pull the single black wire out of the main connector, a bit$h of a job and also a bit$h getting it back in the plastic holder !!! Surprised the hell out of me it worked the first time !!! I hate working on this piece of crap vacuum. I will NEVER NEVER buy another one !!! An expensive piece of crap and we have had the thing about 25 years and I have replaced a lot of parts........
As many before me have said "THANK YOU" for your Outstanding videos. I was able to watch your step by step video on how to replace the Rainbow D4, D4C, SE and PE cord replacement. I actually reused the two rubber plugs by carefully splitting them down the center and gently pealing each of them off of the electrical cord. Thanks again for your video. It made the task very easy for me. P.S. I think this unit is like 34 years old and still going strong.
Please don't ever do that to any of the rainbow. These are the ones I get brought to me that have caught fire. You can't do the job correctly don't do it. There was no reason to slice that wire.
Great video. I didn't remove the trailing arms, just removed the brush roller and slid the belt down the arm. I had to break one of the large rear tabs-no way could I bend it back like it shows in the video. Overall, this thing is clearly designed to break when you try to fix it. The thin plastic gets brittle with age, so expect it to crack on you. And the lousy belt is less than a 1/4 inch wide! They could've made it so much easier with just a half dozen Phillips head screws.
It is pretty durable belt, not like a regular vacuum belt.. It does break occasionally though. The latest Rainbow (SRX) is built using probably less than 10 screws (whole system). It is pretty solid design but few parts are made to break. Manufacturer somehow has to get you to a dealer at some point so he has a chance to sell you a new model :-)
