Both are great guitars ! I have had a 1968 dove I bought when I was 17 some 56 years ago and a 90's Dove. They both have their own sound as does my Hummingbird custom quilt. I'm luck to have the whole Gibson Acoustic set but I am old lol Cheers Phil
You know like you're inspired by Zeppelin, or Sabbath when you're a sprog...... well in my 60s, I, and my sad mates, are going to be inspired by this belter! Watch someone's space!!!
In fact, they wer recorded in the same day with same settings. I flipped the guitars after every demo piece. So, it really IS the natural sound of both guitars. The Hummingbird being much "dryer" and more focused in midrange, the Dove have much more "room", volume and texture. I know it´s weird because they really sound very different through the mics. :)
@@guitarplaceaschaffenburg465wow that’s crazy, and they both sound great. I have both guitars, but my hummingbird is about 30 years older than my dove. I still can’t decide which I like better.
Fine test between the 2 clazziks. Shows exactly how it is : The Bird bein' tighter therefor slightly more defined. The Dove 'roomier' thus bass-richer and generally more generous. Wonder what you would prefer - and if you perhaps already made a choice and have one of these fliers. Hi - and don't hesitate to post again
Thanks for your thoughts. I personally would prefer the Dove. I like the clear trebles and round bass. Also, it seems it has a lighter attack, which makes fingerpicking easier. Also, the look is soooooo cool! I really like maple guitars and own a 1989 J-200
I own also a hummingbird original, and always felt i should have at least tried a dove to see if the maple fitted me better with also the longer scale length,. But the bird i got is more than fine with me. i was used to shorter scale length already from past guitar i own so it worked well.. only odd thing first for a bit was getting used to the neck radius after coming from playing a taylor 412ce for 20+ years. my takamine has smaller string spacing than gibson, and makes it harder sometimes to fingerpick in my opinion. my guild is beefier neck and all but more punch as its a guild jumbo. great demo of both guitars.. i personally dig the bird!
Kann i natürlich net gegen Deine Prinzessin anstinken.
Thanks for your comment. Both are finished in nitro. But the Satin finish top coat is a different type of nitro laquer. I guess it depends on what sound you prefer or what kind of musical style you play. As a singer/songwriter I appreciate the overtones and complexity of the Standard D-18. If I want to cut through in a band or make flatpicking, the satin finish is good for its dryer sound. I hope that helps. And if you like to purchase one, get in touch. ;-)
Love the 00-28 and I would change out the bleached bone nut and saddle and plastic bridge pins. Change them to fossil walrus ivory nut and saddle and bridge pins.
I own the Martin O-18 but I did replace the bleached bone nut with the unbleached bone nut and changed the bleached bone saddle and ebony wood bridge pins for the fossil walrus ivory saddle and fossil walrus jawbone bridge pins. Trebles are fatter and more clarity, sustain more powerful. Harmonics, overtones and the colours and flavors of each note are superb. Neck at 5th fret is set at .oo3 inch and 12th fret E treble is. 070 inch and bass E is .090 inch. 0-18 can take heavy strumming or fingerstyle. I am so happy I made these changes.
...when an absolutely incredible guitar is in the hands of someone great. It just doesn't get better than this. Gibson might want to think about putting you on their payroll. Great demo.
