We understand the importance of our food’s nutritional value and our role as caretakers for the future of the land. We strive to raise the healthiest food for our family and yours by ensuring our farming practices are safe, sustainable and humane. Our plan is to continue producing Grass-Fed Artisan Beef and Golden Rich Pasture-Raised Eggs while increasing our positive impact by sharing our “Doing Farming Right” knowledge and experience with others through video and print productions. We are only limited by our budget. The Subscription Tiers will allow us to continue our farm operations while we continue producing Pigeon River Farm “Doing Farming Right” productions for the benefit of healthy, sustainable food supply for nutritionally conscious families such as yours.

For the small homestead, the easiest, cheapest, with less soil disturbance way to remedy hard park is to spread a layer of raw arborist woodchip with a 2inch layer of green waste, even silage, & then another layer of chip to hold it. Sow long fescue a few weeks later, sow it thick.

Hey fella. Im assuming your grid lines are towards the low spot. Starting on the high side with the ripper all the way down then rasing the ripper as you drive lower in elevation. Have you or your neighbour heard of running subsoil lines perpendicular? How it affects it? Also awesome video. Please make more subsoiling vids. Im very curious.

The soy plant was made by a Benedictine monk named Gregor Mendel in England in 1825. It contains inorganic silica and starch and is highly estrogenic. It contains sulphites which eat up your iron to make you anaemic. It is disastrous to the planet. Don't eat it.

Awesome...we are looking at doing something similar...well done! Any updates on the unit / other videos? Curious how much you get out of each run, how much you've produced to date, things you'd change now that you've worked with it? We may have the opportunity to work with a local university and their Ag Engineering team as a project for their students in the creation of a unit. Great job!

Have you heard of Edison motors on RU-vid?
@pigeonriverfarm6909
@pigeonriverfarm6909 7 месяцев назад
Yes, the folks at Edison motors really have their act together. I been highly impressed with your project strategy and see where they have a bright future. My model was quite different. We are actually doing more about the farm research project with the electric/gas/hybrid configuration intended for energy utilization per task performed on the farm in relationship to the amount of solar energy produced by our 10 K W solar panels. Since I utilize pasture grazing the bulk of my tasks for the farm are performed during peak growing season. The study is going to see about the linearity of solar energy versus pasture growth and the need to utilize the tractor during that cycle. We will be making all of the design details available both on future RU-vid videos and a complete engineering detail list released at the end of the project in January 2025. I also do a lot of electrical technician training being in ASE Master technician on my other RU-vid channel. I've been teaching and servicing hybrid's going on around 20 years now and just so enjoy the technology. Thanks for the comment. Hybrid training video on my other channel. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5qrAbJZhI1c.html

Awesome project! This is the first video of the series I’ve seen so apologies if I’m asking a repeat question, are you planning on setting up the tractor to operate as a full hybrid? I.e are you going to automate the gas engine to kick in when more power is required and use it to charge the batteries in-field. I love to see people taking on big electrification projects like this!
@pigeonriverfarm6909
@pigeonriverfarm6909 7 месяцев назад
The plan for this year is predominantly research testing on the pasture itself. Utilizing all the tasks that I currently do with the gasoline engine and comparing it to the electric and see the overall energy consumption comparison. So, for this year. It's going to stay as a dual mode configuration that future plans, or should I say next winter, is to start utilizing a true hybrid or dual power balance system. As a technical educator, I have been training and servicing hybrids for 20 years now and truly enjoy the technology platform. The overall goal for the project was to do it inexpensively and make it affordable to repurpose tractors that exist on farms all over the country. The battery's overall performance. Capacity is an unknown. I spent a lot of time developing engineering power consumption curves, but since the data is for the actual energy consumption, The tractor is currently utilized under its normal task load. I've only utilized a vacuum gauge and gas analyzer to get a rough approximation of the power requirement for many of the tasks. I've currently limited the electric motor's horsepower to around 25 hp. As you know, a motor of this configuration can produce hundreds of horsepower, but the intention is to actually look at it from a cost-saving energy-efficient model. A few years back, I put a 10K W solar system on the shop, and it has worked very well for running the freezers, lights well, etc., but has not saved any fuel whatsoever out of my on-farm fuel tank, and that's where the idea formed from. So, round us out this year is the energy utilization research part of the project, and next year I'm planning on having fun configuring the hybrid design. Thank you for commenting!

Just out of curiosity are you keeping the engine clutch disengaged the entire time you’re using the electric drive? If so you’ll need to keep an eye on the throw out bearing on the clutch. The letter series tractors had graphite throw out bearings that would probably not last a season of work in that configuration. A lot of them were updated to a thrust bearing that takes grease, so I’d think that style would work okay.

Hello, what is the ratio of sunflower meal vs maize flour
@pigeonriverfarm6909
@pigeonriverfarm6909 7 месяцев назад
The ratio that we been utilizing for number of years has been sunflowers meal at 25% of the total weight of the feed mix. The rest of the mix is pretty complicated because we alter the formula based on winter and summer performance. During the summer months, the birds on pasture and overall feed consumption goes down, so we utilize a different mixture.

Did it work?
@pigeonriverfarm6909
@pigeonriverfarm6909 7 месяцев назад
I been pleased with the outcome. Utilizing this method to dry up pastureland. We can compare this technique to conventional tiling. But at a fraction of the cost performance seems to be pretty good. In some areas where I had utilized technique, they wouldn't even qualify for tiling because of inadequate discharge point it worked great. This spring I will not be unable to render an opinion on performance since were gone from extreme flooding in the spring to the driest spring I've seen in my years of farming.

Do you need a 3 point hitch with down pressure, or is the weight of the hitch enough to force it into the ground?
@pigeonriverfarm6909
@pigeonriverfarm6909 7 месяцев назад
No need to have a tractor with down pressure on the three-point hitch. It's just a matter of positioning the ripper into the ground, and the shoe on the bottom of the ripper bar is radiused up and produces a significant amount of down pressure again based on the angle of the ripper bar.

I've been telling people since the seventies if you kill the beaver you're going to kill our weather patterns. The beaver held back trillions of gallons of water all over the United States now that they have been eradicated and the beaver dams are gone, the groundwater and surface is drying up. Every time we have a little rain all the waters run straight to the oceans and everybody cry babies about the oceans rising. Beaver dams caused water evaporation which caused rain which cooled the atmosphere which caused more rain which cooled the atmosphere which kept our ecosystem and ecosystem. Our father Jesus told us this would happen when he said a third of the surface waters will be dried up until the last days,,, welcome to the present time!!!
