Hello DJ, I need to do a repair on my Hunter 376 stanchion bases and your video is extremely helpful. I did not know about the aluminum base on the underside of the deck, so that is a key point of info. I love your idea to drill a larger hole and then fill with epoxy while the machine screw is in place. I just tested that at home with a piece of wood and it works well. Thanks for the video.
Great tool. But, why aren't you using another tool in addition to actually measure the amouhnt of tension you are putting on the belt... a tool like, for instance, the Gates Krikit gauge?
I spoke with Balmar Alternators directly, they told me the tension can be done by feel. Keep adding tension till you can feel the back of the belt has gone slightly concave where it goes around the pulley.
i like this idea of having the holes threaded, more secure with very little extra work, if your stanchions are hollow, down bed the entire bottom plate, just the bolts, if water gets in the stanchion it will have no way of getting out.
If you DO decide to purchase one, take it to a welding shop before you use it for the first time, and have them reinforce the welds on each end. The current design is a tiny "spot" weld which breaks extremely easily rendering it useless.
THANK YOU!!!!!! I have been looking for a solution to appropriately tension the alternator belt on my boat. I had the same experience with the crowbar method. If I'm ever back in the Toronto area (I used to travel there often for business), I'll reach out so I can by you a beer or drink of your choice.
I don't think there is any wood or balsa, you are probably seeing core mat. a fiberglass mat intended as a thin core material. A better method is to simply tap the holes out to #12 - 24 and I believe 3M UV 4000 or 5200 is better than butyl tape.
Hi! Looks like Yanmar2gm20?? And Balmar alternator? If so, which size alternator do you have? How does the engine manage? You have v-belt, is it good enough? I have forementioned engine, would like to upgrade alternator but not sure what the old engine can handle...
The engine is actually a 3GM30 with a 110amp/ Balmar. The V belt does handle the load but I would say it is at the edge of requiring a serpentine belt at 100amps output. I found Balmar very helpful when I called them directly. They will help you with matching your engine and any tech questions or setup.
Since that video was taken the water level has risen about three feet in Georgian Bay so there’s probably not much island left above water, you’d probably have to camp on Shawanaga Island itself.
@@DJW007 Hey thanks for quick response . Oh that’s good water levels are up. Are people allowed to camp on shawanaga island ? Is it crown land or privately owned ?
@@FishingMidland When we were there it was Crown Land but I found this in 2019 www.myparrysoundnow.com/51151/shawanaga-first-nation-selected-as-caretakers-for-shawanaga-island/ although I've seen campers there over long weekends.
@@DJW007 Ah ok thats interesting . So now it’s assumed crown land . As a non indigenous person not sure if I’m allowed camping there . Tons of islands in that area though, so Don’t think it be too hard to find one that’s safe to camp. appreciate the information
Bought Simoniz one very disappointed, up to a point where I was wondering if my technique was bad or what the fuck was wrong with this machine trying to polish my car while keeping my thumb on the speed to constantly adjust damn ! Will bring it back to Candadian Tire for sure !
Hi there thanks for this, I'm in the middle of doing the same thing and have not seen this method with surrounding the bolt with epoxy. I have a tiny bit of rot as well in the core. Did you have a washer and nut underneath to hold the bolt and keep the epoxy from dripping down? thank you.
Ya it probably has twice the power but it should for twice the money. I use smaller pads on my simoniz and it works great I find those bigger pads are awkward on most vehicles anyway
Thanks John...we just took delivery of a Hunter 340 from Lake Champlain and will get back to you on the expansion of your design for our new "baby"! I think we are utilizing a PVC exoskeleton instead of the wood as seems more logistically convenient. Any other tips would be great. Thanks again TC
but one is 125$ more ...I got the Simoniz but only using it for small surfaces, I guess for under 100$ you are getting something decent with more power than a regular orbital buffer... but thanks for the video ..I will get the Dawalt later on !!!
Not all can tire locations carries them, call the main line and ask for the locations that have the item in their catalog the DeWALT Cable 7-in.
