This is one of those sensationalistic videos about the "dark" side of Athens. Poor and dangerous are two completely different things. If it really were dangerous, you wouldn't just walk through.
Imagine what mess the Turkish authorities will have to deal with in a century from now, when they will absorb Greece and the rest of Balkans. They will have to deal with all the mobsters of Balkans and with those of the Middle East , North Africa and Central Asia, who have made Athens their international playground........
4:20 i was in this Hotel Alma in 2011 - kinda weird / wholesome feeling it still exists ... One evening hotel staff told us to not go out of there is no immediate reason and they saved the doors with 2 Security "bouncers"... Otherwise whats cool about omonia square its like the general hub for all Public Transport you have access to all metro / bus lines to all places you want to visit. Greetings from Germany where Berlin has also lots of its bad places... I am calling you, Cottbuser Tor ! Hasenheide! So i only thought :Ok, it could be worse" after that Situation in the Hotel 😂
I think hotel alma is the hotel my friend stayed too 🤣. I was in Berlin 5 times it totally changed from 2012 from my first visit. I used to stay in Rosenberg plats which was cool, but some places in Mitte were not cool.
Have been to Athens twice and stayed in omonia both times, yes so some areas are a bit run down but overall found it safe and the people lovely especially in the shops, maybe take a look at your own homeland before criticising others, will definitely visit Athens again and will definitely stay in omonia, the people are generous with tourists and the shops are just for every day stuff unlike plaka which while being more aesthetically pleasing to the eye is just full of tourists tat to take home
I visit Athens every year. Yes, this is a depressing, more than anything else, area. But it is tiny, easily avoidable, not particularly dangerous, and a walk in the the green meadows compared to Philly, Baltimore, or the Tenderloin in San Francisco. Another little point: Greece is emerging from a nightmare decade, deeply wounded but survived and recovering. Society held. It gives me goosebumps to think what would have happened here in the US if we had 27% unemployment; my guess is we would be eating each other alive...
Yes I totally agree with you in the states it would be a nightmare. I hope the municipality of Athens cleans up the hotel areas so people can stay there without fear. Thanks for watching 😄
In 2011 you couldnt believe it,nightime the whole square was occupied wit heroin addicted of all ages injecting heroin in their venes,on the other side nigerian prostitutes.Police cars just drive aside, occasionaly make a sound but not intervene.
I live in Athens but I live out towards the suburbs. I avoid downtown Athens. If I go for coffee with friends I stay pretty much in Syndagma Square or Plaka. It’s not that the drug users will attack you, it’s just so depressing and dirty around the side streets of Omonia and at night it can be dangerous.
@@montrealcanada-hf2qc if I'm not mistaken the name of that hotel is Sanders port piraeus. But if you check on booking.com you will find even cheaper options.
Yes exactly it has been like this for years, I can see that they are trying to clean the area but it takes them a long time. This video indeed will help people especially families with kids understand what is going on. Thanks for watching.
@@WalkWithArtur Так это не совет. Просто смотрю, к примеру, лондонские прогулки, так там народу тьма. Как говорится, меньше народу, больше кислороду. 😊😊 Отлично встретить новый год 😊
