Thanks Dave -- yeah, we like a quieter room too. Generally, things mellow out a bit in the second set, but not always. That's the nature of a pub gig. You can sign up on my mailing list at vincerad.com to receive gig updates. Hope to see you again!
@@VRados that is so awesome! Looking for a smaller acoustic on my end and debating between a Buck or Guild M-20 for a vintage or just a 000-15 martin. I always admired the bucks, but would want to convert the bracing. It sounded wonderful.
@@Ashton-mx2bg well those all seem like great choices! The all mahogany thing is where I’m hanging out these days. I have a 000-15m and it’s great. The choice between that and an M-20 might boil down to your preference for scale and nut width. I prefer the 1-11/16” nut on the Martin. The Guild is 1-3/4” I believe and has the shorter scale at 24.75”. I’m kinda obsessed with the idea of an old Harmony H165 (all mahogany) but the 1-3/4” nut holds me back. For the rebracing, I’m guessing you’re talking about the Baxendale conversions at Stay Gold Guitars?
@VRados Yes, Baxendale recently teamed up with another store, if I recall correctly. I’m mostly into dreadnoughts and currently own two 28's, but I’m looking for a smaller acoustic. I think I prefer the 1-3/4" nut width, as one of my 28's has that, while the other is 1-11/16". The models I have are a 1937 D-28 Authentic Aged and an HD-28V. I will check out that H165, I have always like the buck and wanted one and just to have one vintage smaller body would be nice. Curious how you think the 000-15 compares to your buck? I get vastly different guitars in terms of wood and maybe neck, havent checked the specs on that but any insights?
@@Ashton-mx2bg the 000-15 is hands down a better sounding guitar than a stock Buck but that's my subjective taste. In my hands, the Martin easier to play because I prefer the 1-11/16" nut and 2-1/8" string spacing. An unmodified Buck has a plastic nut and a plastic saddle hitched to the old Gibson style adjustable bridge -- with a reputation for stealing tone from every guitar that it's installed on. Now a Baxendale converted Buck? Better bracing, new nut and saddle, neck reset and basicallly a new neck with the refret and re-radius that they do. Now the Buck is also a painted guitar which also has an impact on the tone. Long and short, a Baxendale conversion of. Buck starts with $2-3K for the guitar and then maybe $1500 (guess?) for the conversion for a guitar that will sound as good as any Buck can sound. Will it sound "better" than a 000-15? I wish I knew.
Fantastic rendition! Bravo. I checked your posted sheet music and looks like it says capo on 3rd fret, but i noticed in your video you did not use a capo. Are you playing the same chords just no capo?
The chords on the sheet are the ones I play and yes, I took off the capo to bring the song into my vocal range. I believe that Bruce sings it in D chords, capo 3, but I could be wrong about that. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Fantastic Cover...gave me the feeling in every single second of this song that this man really kows what he is singing about...excellent choice of guitar too 👍
I think it was not that long before I recorded this that I saw an interview where Bruce admitted that there was a mistake on the lyrics printed on the original LP that led so many astray.
I've been trying to find one of these for a few months now. That one looks to be in pretty good shape. When I do find one, trying to convince my wife that the red, white, and blue guitar sitting in the corner has always been there will be a task. :)
Of all the comments on this video, none match the dialectic quality of yours. It gives me both pride and humility in equal measure. Thanks for watching and commenting! Really!
Not for nuthin… but others said you channeled Bruce. Sounds more like you channeled Warren Zevon covering Bruce… which makes it all that much more special. Helluva treat! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you! A few years ago I heard John Moreland cover this song because Bruce shared that version! All of that ultimately helped inspire me to throw out a version.
I put a link to a PDF file of the lyrics and chords that I use in the description of the video. The document says to place a capo on the third fret I think because that's the key that Bruce plays it in. I take off the capo to make it easier to sing. I was watching Thunder Road covers when I came across yours. It was one of the best I have ever heard, really awesome and heartfelt. I then checked out your channel and saw you covered a few John Prine songs. He's probably one of the most under appreciated and unknown singer songwriters out there. We lost him too early. Spanish Pipedream is one of my favorites. It has my favorite JP lyric "I knew that topless lady had something up her sleeve". Keep strummin'. Ya got a new subscriber in me.
Thanks for listening and commenting. JP is a long time favorite. I recorded that version of Speed Of Sound on the day I heard the news that John had been admitted to the ICU with Covid. That was a hard day for many of us, not the last one either. Working on "Long Monday" these days, coming soon!
