A Victorian lady in the modern world. I write both fiction and non-fiction, and I believe reading real books makes the world a better place. I love books, cats, roses, and primary-source historical research. Be sure to find my books on Amazon - and remember to tell your friends about them! Happy reading! :)
That’s wonderful 😁what lovely cat liked laying on your book hand writing stories about life Victorian but it’s making you feel good but me too, that’s great Sarah 👍🏼👌🏼🪞😽 I ❤you 🤙🏼
Antiques and cats!! i am a lover of all things victorian, and own many antique items from the period. my partner desperately wishes to have a cat, but i worry about Maude, my 1880’s Eastlake chair.. how do you sleep easy at night with the cats? what is your solution to peace?
I love ❤️ to watch your show and videos, there is no problem in living life in Victoria era in past but I lived life with Victoria and post world war 2 too 😀you are doing excellent work and enjoying stepping back in old day, me too thanks for sharing and watching is an excellent and wonderful project.👍🏼👍🏼👌🏼I ❤you 😃 thanks
This cross frame is gorgeous. I wonder how a modern road bike variant would perform. Carbon frame with steel fork. Probably light, aerodynamic and comfy. The tension struts might not be needed for large diameter tubing.
WOW! So kind of you to do a video review of my new book! Thank you, thank you, thank you. And if you ever want to learn to knit I'd be very happy to show you how - virtually. PS) I have a calico too. 🙂
Wow, this is so exciting to see because I designed the cover for this book! It was very exciting to get to work on a Victorian-themed book cover. I’ve been a fan of your work for years, so I love finding out that the editor I worked with also knows about you!
Wonderful. Those amazing machines are very much part of history. This is the first real demonstration of how one is ridden that I have ever seen. Thanks for a most excellent video.
I’ll be honest. When I saw the thumbnail, I wasn’t sure I’d be interested in the topic, but I clicked because the cat is adorable. Excellent marketing. 👏🏻 I did enjoy the video as well.
I know of a case where the MAN threatened to sue even though she had never actually agreed to marry him. She was well off,and her friends warned her that he was broke and drank so she backed off from his epistolary wooing. She was furious, and wrote back "would you have me marry you whether I like it or no?" She was called Margaret Fountaine. Quite a feisty lady. His letter is quite amusing and full of "OH!!!!!!!!!!" etc etc as he saw her money becoming ever distant.
My grandfather was sued by a woman just after WW1 after he married my grandmother instead. I have yet to be brave enough to request the court documents!
We keep our upcoming events posted here: www.thisvictorianlife.com/upcoming-events.html The next couple are seasonal programs in Lamoni, Iowa: October's program (one week before Hallowe'en) is about the true history of vampires and werewolves, while November's (one week before Thanksgiving) is about the history of the turkey. If you'd like us to come to your community, try asking your local museum, historical society, or other community group to sponsor a presentation / author event. :) The details of arranging a program in your community are here: www.thisvictorianlife.com/presentations--programs.html : this page includes descriptions of some of our set programs, and we're always happy to cater a program to fit a group's particular needs. Hope to see you in your neighborhood soon! :)
Dear Madam, Being a lady much like yourself, I wondered if you could recommend a good seven or eight piece corset pattern for a young lady in my aqaintance who is in desperate need of that garment. Could you please make a presentation about your suppliers of materials, your favourite patterns, &c. also, if there is any place at all that you know of where 15- inch metal lacing busks are sold, I should be most appreciative. Thank-you in advance.
One of the factors that gave rise to the movement in the US was the collective trauma of the Civil War. (but I suspect you know this already). The whole obsession of the era with death is fascinating.
Your discussion of papers and books prompts me to ask if you are familiar with the life of Isabella Beeton , author of 'Beeton's Book of Household Management', whose husband (and business partner) was a publisher and whose legacy far exceeded her very short life.
Actually, I wrote the introduction to an abridgement of that book which came out a few years ago, at the publisher's request. www.amazon.com/Mrs-Beetons-Book-Household-Management/dp/1510760253/ref=sr_1_1?crid=1P65VY8YVFFA5&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.R5APDEmpI-qcp21ChqLpt8V207VmeMdyPaakEMAKQkBaF6oTgwim0SuNt0sYB_wh.M7z-RSlEYlC0cB9wgYiP85GeOzRmAE2zt2g-mJkIDSI&dib_tag=se&keywords=Sarah+Chrisman+Mrs.+Beeton%27s+book+of+household+management&qid=1723119914&sprefix=sarah+chrisman+mrs.+beeton%27s+book+of+household+management%2Caps%2C124&sr=8-1
Wow , what a kool design. Looks quite contemporary, maybe in carbon fibre! Shame you didn’t give more information. ..how it rides, comfort, handling. ..how the frame works, seems to have tension cables. I guess the rolling resistance of those solid tyres, on smooth asphalt is excellent.
