There were lots of things wrong with the Land Rover: seating, corrosion, door pillars in the wrong place, no airbags, no side impact protection and so on. But the basic design and concept was good for 68 years and as an off road truck it was just superb, 70% of all Land Rovers ever built are still being used. Read that again. So why, oh why, did they not update it and keep the breed going? Lousy Indian management of a great British firm.
minormajor1 they didn't update it because it was really fine as it was but they had to stop making it because if silly eu emissions and safety laws. I agree I wouldn't want to be in an accident in one of these but what an iconic piece of design. My favourite engines are the 200 and 300tdi's, because they're easy to work on and so cheap to replace parts. I've owned both.
It can be driven, see UCR5050 on the Cumbria County Council website: www.cumbria.gov.uk/roads-transport/public-transport-road-safety/countryside-access/HOTR/OS96.asp However, the LDNPA say it should be driven from West to East only. It is also frequently used by walkers and mountain bikers, so particular care is needed.
Look at around 36 seconds and the end of the winch rope can be seen. I think the filming would have stopped the Landy secured and the winch rope pulled back out to the next securing point and this would have continued until it reached the crest of the embankment.
hello there, i see the last bit of the clip is a ford next to the substation near dale between kirkoswald and ainstable. i keep looking at this lane but have never been down it yet, is it easy enough to follow it looks like it hasnt been used in years other than for farming.
sorry to disturb but defender dont need major modifications I mean a standard Defender can be euiped with a 120 milimeters recoiless antitank cannon or be launched from the air if fitted with the proper parachutes without any modification on the suspension now that jeep was developed to do withou major modifications comon made a research on the web or on the youtube ... and I'm not even english and I know that besides it dont get rusted EVER only the chassis but thats easy to solve using oil
Are you kidding me? What you're saying is that a Defender that's just been risen is not a better climber than a fully modified Jeep with huge-ass off road tires at least 24" in diameter? Geez, what a breakthrough!
