In reply, I am afraid that you are misguided,as at 26 Hilary Hahn was world class performer and some of her interpretations especially in Bach were absolutely wonderful! However, I will stay with my criticism of the Goldmark. Please listen to Valid on in this piece. Perhaps you will understand?
The thumbnail looks like a pinky with a human attached, but I can remember Pierre Amoyal having an intenser und much "sexier" vibrato with the 4th finger...
The performances were the 13th and 14h of October, 2006. Which performance was broadcast, I can't find, but it could have been Friday the 13th! I too wish she had recorded it, even though there's no lack of terrific performances on RU-vid. (Hadelich, Fischer and Jansen are all standouts, and I haven't gotten to Baeva, Frang, Zimmerman or Vengerov. I think Hilary got there a decade too early, before the piece had snuck into the repertory (almost.)
SUCH A BEAUTY STREAMS FROM HILARY'S INTERPRETATION! ONE FEELS HER NOBLE SOUL, ONE HEARS THE PULSE OF HER HEART! DIVINE HILARY! GENIOUS HILARY! ETERNAL HILARY!
The third movement is too rushed for me and becomes too unmusical. I am suprised, because Hilary Hahn is usually a wonderful musician. However there are no cuts in this performance, unlike others that I have heard!! I love the extensive cadence in this movement and the music that follows, also cut! Disgraceful!
Hello, I believe there was another recording of Hilary playing this concerto on RU-vid somewhere, but I cannot find it anymore. Does anyone know if it got deleted or what? This seems to be the only surviving recording right now...
I am not the only person in history to memorize this verbatim and see the humor in it every time. and for that I thank the wonderful soul who uploaded this with same energy I have always felt for this golden minute of cinematic history.
Thank you for posting this. A great performance. The excellent conductor is NOT Paavo Järvi in this performance, but André Boreyko as the announcer says.
Such a joy to hear this. Hilary Hahn, your playing is simply wonderful. I know that you work hard to reach your standard. And I have to say awesome job to the orchestra, also.
Nunca había escuchado este concierto con tanta fuerza dramática, con tal intensidad y profundizando tanto en las intenciones probables de Britten. Un gran aplauso.
great, she plays with this wonderful tone, intense and very focused. The concerto "owns" Nathan Milstein, he and Harry Blech made a wonderful recording.
@@Rorza94 Those are two different performances. The one you're talking about is a 2007 performance with Charles Dutoit, this one is 2006 at the Aspen Music Festival. Hilary did a much too fast tempo and had errors on the first movement.
The orchestra is also phenomenal. It reminds me of the you-tube vid "Marin alsop breaks down orchestra scenes in movies" where she watches the end of "Mr Holland's Opus" and says no student orchestra sounds like that.
I've been listening to this since at least the mid-'80s, and own several recorded performances (IMO it's one of the greatest violin concerti of the 2th century). I've listened to this twice in two days. I believe it is the best performance I've heard. Hahn is spot on pitch with every note, and imparts great energy to the music without undermining its emotional power. I wish she had kept it in her regular repertory, and recorded it.
I am SO GLAD that this exists. I first heard this piece played by Hilary Hahn while attending a rehearsal of the Curtis Orchestra in what must have been 2008? And ever since I have yet to encounter any recording that compares to that day, yet the memory of her playing this piece was etched in my brain --the way she digs in to every dissonant double stop with unyielding resonance to make the weightiest moments absolutely profound, only to take flight seconds later- weightlessly dancing on top of perfectly internalized metronome markings (she restarted the 2nd movement numerous times at the Curtis rehearsal to insist that anything less than the tempo marked would be unacceptable)-- as is her gift of unlocking the rich emotional content of a piece of music through her technical mastery that honestly has no equal this side of the 21st century
I was at this concert. I distinctly remember that she was sick. In her encore she mentioned that it was hard to play while sucking on a throat lozenge.... haha
Wow!!! I had forgotten how much I liked this piece. That last mvt was a complete knockout, and a home run for Hilary. Thanks for the upload. This has got to be the most underrated of all violin concertos.
awesome! thank you for finding the rest of this performance. curious how you came across this? local radio broadcast? you snuck a recorder into the theater? i did the latter once, recording mischa maisky playing prokofiev symphony concertante, but i lost the casette.
2nd best interpretation of the Britten ever. Best being Janine. But this comes really close. And Paavo Jarvi of course the best to conduct this. wonderful concerto.
