There are two separate issues: (a) the states that are best for off-grid living, and (b) the states that impose the fewest restrictions when it comes to building a structure on a property. I'm sure there's a lot of overlap between the two categories, but the overlap isn't total.

Notice how most of these places are in the south, I can understand someone who wants to start a family or already has one moving there but I feel that most young people want to stay clear of the south even me as an immigrant I’d rather stay clear and currently live in TN; great place to save and make money but honestly not my final place to live

New Mexico is a beautiful state, but, in considering OFF GRID LIVING, I would get a geiger counter to check perspective land purchases. Grants, NM was a main source of NUCLEAR MATERIALS and many atmospheric tests were done here. One set of tests cost John Wayne and many others their lives, from CANCER. Most of the state is FINE, but a geiger counter is cheaper than medical bills to be sure. I have seen land as cheap as $200/acre.
i was almost 400lbs by the age of 20, the second i moved out i lost 80lbs, & am down over 140 now. my parents wouldn't buy fresh food & didn't stop me from eating 4 hotdogs when everyone else had 1. i remember getting yelled at in the grocery store for asking for strawberries. im freeeee now lol

Dont dismiss the dry areas of Texas. I live in the Driest at 4 inches per year of rain. Yes water is very deep at 1500 feet. But you will be surprised at how much water you can catch with only 4 inches of rain. However. Since that rain is only about 2 days per year. You maybe waiting almost 2 years. ( Smart is get here before June. And catch able rains are between june and October. Mainly mid July to mid September. ) Outside the rain /monsoon season. Dont expect rain or snow. But it does happen. If you come during the dry period. You can buy water at . I think it 3 cent a gallon in town. And the grow season without green house is March to December. Green house year around. Highs 115 ish Lows above Zero. Most the time above freezing. I recommend using hyroponic farming. Ocroponics may also work. Though i think catfish would be better. Im not a hippie yippie person. Its just conserving water is a big deal when you have so little. Many have came and failed. Because they do things like you can do in wet places. And dont adapt to the environment.

This a long going title but good historical info. The only thing these states are based on percentage not a whole black population most states on here are only less then 1.5 million less which the states with the most black population are two million or more is the actual numbers
