I wouldn’t belly down. That is where you get crushed. If you get that octopus grip the best option is to get your knee, that is closest to the opponent, in to the crotch for a sort of half butterfly, then take your far leg and get half guard, get a lockdown, then all you need to do is hip switch the opposite way and you can escape out to the back with a truck in place.

Great details! I've definitely had the problem where they get their elbow to the mat if I try to jump straight to kesa without enough prior control. Looking forward to giving this a try.
