Hello and welcome to Apple Pea Fern Sea. We are two plant and nature enthusiasts who created our small, wildlife-friendly garden from scratch using recycled materials for hard landscaping, and planting an evergreen backdrop of shrubs and grasses as a foil for colourful seasonal flowers.
We’d love you to join us here in Kent, South East England, as we film the evolution of our garden through the seasons. Our video library includes the inspirational gardens we visit, horticultural events and highlights ways to grow some of our favourite flowers.
Our channel name embraces four essential attributes close to our hearts:
* nature’s beautiful and endless nuances of green on the colour spectrum * the benefits of green spaces for health and well-being * preservation and protection of the natural world * cross cultural and historical associations with green as a symbol of growth, life, and hope
Wishing everyone nature-soothed minds and flowerful times.
Wow what a beautiful garden full of creation , colourful display of flowers and even the wild life of butterflies, frogs bumble bees.its really amazing garden tour . I enjoyed every moment of the tour with relaxation.
Great work, I enjoyed the format and the information. Straight facts, lots of images, calm music. One of the best videos I’ve watched. Greetings from Mexico 🌱 thank you.
Wow... first time viewer and I am amazed at your stunning garden. The lavender rondell is absolutely magical. I love that the garden has brick walls. Nothing adds history to a garden like old brick and stone. ALso love that you have so many flowers in pots. As I am getting older, digging in the ground is getting challenging. This gives me inspiration to plant in pots. I love the pop of the white bench with the pink hydrangeas. I just ordered a beautiful bronze birdbath today . After seeing yours, I cant wait for it to arrive.
Thank you so much for finding our channel and sharing your enjoyment and appreciation of the garden with us. We do enjoy the way planting in containers allows for easier provision of the right type of growing conditions for many plants. I am sure that the beautiful new birdbath and visiting birds will bring you much pleasure. Happy summer gardening!
Thank you, Annette! There are as yet no little bamboo seedlings but the plant seems determined to go to seed again: many of the fresh new shoots have unexpectedly begun flowering.
One of the most gorgeous containers garden I have ever seen. So many beautiful plants and you have a very calming voice that makes me want to slow down and look more closely. I did subscribe to your channel. Love and blessings 💚🩷💛🩷💚
Lovely lovely video. Please tell, is all of the lavender in your garden Folgate? I’m about to pull out my Phenomenal as its flowers splay out messily every year, no matter which position they are in the garden. All of your Lavender looks the perfect shape. Thanks in advance. Debs.
Our lavender bushes are all ‘Folgate’ and it does seem to retain a good shape. It is relatively young (3 years old) but hopefully will age well with conscientious pruning. One disadvantage, ‘Folgate’ does have more modest-sized flower heads than the generously large ones on ‘Phenomenal’. A trick we used to keep our previous sprawling lavender bushes going as long as possible was to gently draw each bush together at the base with cushioned green garden tie, and that provided the illusion of neatness for a couple more years. I daubed the tie with non-toxic acrylic paint to camouflage it with lavender foliage colour. Happy lavender gardening, Deb!
Somehow I got a strange allium in my package of bulbs last autumn and I absolutely love it. If I knew what it was I would order more. I do adore your descriptions of plants. Hilarious to think of them as guests at a garden party.
Thank you Amy, your mystery allium was clearly the ‘surprise guest’ at your party! Even though it has no name for a proper introduction, hopefully it will multiply for extra enjoyment in years to come.
For a wonderful garden tour today everything’s looking beautiful watching your ring. Come down and watering this beautiful garden. Thanks so much for sharing it.
Thank you for showing us all the beautiful plants in your garden. I've made a note of some things that I've got to get for next year. Pink Honey Garlic bulbs, Nemesia Denim (I planted Wisley this year), Cosmos Sonata Pink (I always sow Purity) and Allium Globe Master bulbs. I have a few Christophii and Purple Sensation and the bees have loved them. I do hope your apple tree recovers. The weather has caused havoc in all of our gardens this year and I thought we'd turned a corner during the week but it's back to rain today.
Thank you for joining us in our garden Wendy, its always a pleasure to have your company and comments. All your plant choices sound like extra treats for the bees next year. The sunshine was a treasured, too-brief taste of summer, wasn’t it, although the hydrangeas here are already looking forward to more rain. Sending best wishes.
Wow what a vibrant colourful lovely beautiful flower garden with wildlife, floral treasures . Also a complete knowledge of various species. For me this was a ultimate dreamy tour of gorgeous summer flowers. Thank you so much for showing us your floral treasures .
Can someone tell me what is the flower at 6:40 ? The soft pink with an egg yolk center. It completely stunned me by its color pattern. Please and thank you!!!
Hi from a very cold and gloomy Cheshire! My garden is struggling with the cold temperatures and I've lost so many of my home grown plants to slugs and snails so your video really cheered me up. I think I told you before that my favourite garden is the one by Holly Johnston. I've not seen the programme Bridgerton but I can just imagine the ladies in their long dresses taking a stroll through such a beautiful garden. Thanks for filming for us.
Greetings to Cheshire Wendy, from cold, wet and gloomy Kent! Oh, the anguish for gardeners and growers caused by slug and snail destruction this year - and here they seem to have developed new appetites for plants left completely untouched in previous summers. Very happy the video cheered you, Holly Johnston’s garden is a very evocative vision with such charming planting.
I have been watching the BBC coverage of this year's Chelsea Flower Show but I was also really looking forward to your take of it and to see what stood out for you. I have been fascinated by the great variety of irises that I've seen featuring in most of the gardens. Is this something that happens every year or is it this year's trend? Thank you for sharing your visit and I look forward to your next episode.
Thank you so much! There do seem to be more irises, especially the bearded varieties with romantic pink-ish tones, perhaps influenced by last year‘s outstanding ‘Nurture Landscapes Garden’ by Sarah Price. For many gardens, I wasn’t able to find the exact cultivars in the designer's plant list but I’ve enjoyed scrolling through images of many gorgeous irises online trying to identify the Chelsea beauties!
@@ApplePeaFernSea Thank you. Many people still refer to Sarah Price's garden from last year and I can understand why. It must have been simply stunning to see it in real life. Thanks again!!
This Spring (2024), Ontario, Canada announced that the dreaded Box Tree Moth has arrived in Ontario and is spreading out of control. I have a nice Box wood hedge and thought that may be I will be spared this year. But no...while trimming the hedge, I noticed some damage and some webbing. On closer inspection I confirmed that this creepy-crawly has arrived uninvited to my garden. Very disappointed indeed. Today (May 24th), I sprayed the hedge with BTK. I have to wait and see if this helps. Fingers crossed.
Such a shame the dreaded moths have reached your part of the world, I do hope your hedge survives. In the UK, we currently have to be professionally accredited to use btk but it does sound very effective as a targeted biological control. Good luck!
Really liked the salvia amistad near the agapanthus. Both plants look well together and I will move my salvia amistad in a pot to blend in with my agapanthus. Also really liked you using your table wrapped with bubble wrap to overwinter your agapanthus.
