if someone is out in the countryside, 25 kilometers away from the nearest hospital down a dirt road, what's the issue with using the extractor while you're just doing NOTHING in the car? The point isn't about not going to the hospital because of the vacuum, but using it while you're on the way there.
If you have ice water in your veins Celox is for you. For the rest of us humans Quikclot have been found to be 15x more effective over a one hour period in stopping major bleeding according to peer reviewed research found on pubmed
Do not use this how the video demonstrates. If you suspect a Cspine injury you NEVER EVER EVER want any cervical movement. So moving the head in flexion to slide it under head is the last thing you would want to do. Cut it in half if you need to or use something else but for the love of god don’t bend the patients neck if a neck injury is suspected
To be fair, blood coagulates on its own, so quickclot would be effective, but it’s clear that celox is better for other reasons. The granules are great too, and the z fold was quicker at being dispensed and wasn’t as compressible as the quickclot. The studies show that hemostatic agents don’t provide much different, if any, to regular gauze. That being said, I have kits with just celox granules, I have kits with only quickclot gauze, but I have kits with celox and quickclot. I do think though that in a situation that calls for action, the celox gauze might be easier to deal with, but I’m not sure if I’ll switch them out of my kits for all celox when the time comes to replace them.
So imagine like a tiny hole right u would push the applicator up to the hole and dispense the application into the hole and the same steps apply afterwards this video is just for demonstration and not what the actual wound should look like
Has this happened to anyone else.....Recently we got these Blood controlled IV's and twice in the last week while i hooked the patients line up to the power injector the catheter couldnt take it and saline came squirting out everywhere all over the patient, even though the contrast went in.
the video lies. you definitely need to occlude proximal to the cannula even when following these instructions otherwise you will have a ton of blood everywhere.
Alright so we did an in vetro comparison of apples and oranges- just read the other comments. Both these products are great - but this experiment is utter BS.
The whole reason I watched this video is because I am an infusion nurse at different facilities and they use different supplies. Every time I get this type of iv I miss a good vein that I would not have missed with others. Its juts hard to maneuver due to length and pushing in the cannula is awkward. They’re the worst. The best ones are the braun introcan safety (regular) or the safety 3. Rarely miss with those.
As an RN of 21 years, I know that this will not work. The extractor is actually pushing the venom deeper into the body. It makes no sense. Stay calm and get medical attention asap. Lie still if possible until help arrives. No need to bring in the snake as an ER doctor will be able to tell if the bite is a fang type or a chewing type bite and will be able to determine which antidote to use.
