Subscribe: ru-vid.com Located in Burlington, Ontario, Canada, I am the owner and artist at Queen Bee Creations. I love taking furniture and decor items that are a little tired and worn, upcycling and refreshing them to breathe new life into them. Ultimately... to help them be loved once again! Crafting has long been a part of my life - both as a creative outlet and as a means of adding some personal touches to my home.
I hope you find some inspiration within the channel to try something new, to play and create!
Oh you genious woman! I love how your artistic brain thinks and how you thrift it into brilliant creations. This one is fantastic. I'm so fed up with with all the dollar store content creators that are all making the same darn thing. They run to a dollar store, spend a fortune buying perfectly good items, come home and slap a coat of paint on or rip off a decorative top, and at the end it it they stand back and say, "I just love this and hope you do too". They are all copying one another from project to project right down to what they even say. The final item just cost them big bucks and if you look closely when a lot display them in their home or by their own trees, you will notice that most of them don't have anything on their tree, or mantle, where ever, that they've made them selves, in any of their own videos. It disturbs me greatly. This is why I love artistic content creators like you that actually create things out of nothing, or thrifted items. As you said today. No two are really going to be alike. I realize we all buy craft supplies and there are projects we need to pick up certain items for (as in the acrylic clear balls) but I say, enough is enough of all this dollar store recreate, nonsense. Bravo and hats off to you for bringing us true DIY's. Today was one of the best. ❤️❤️❤️🇨🇦 ps. Thanks for hearing me lol.
Wow... Nora... you made my day! I really strive to bring you something 'new' and not repetitive. Meaning... with over 500 videos I don't want to have repeated the 'same' thing over and over. Maybe the same technique used differently, or a different application... but something you learn from. It's challenging with 3 videos a week while running the shop on my own too but... it's my own pressure so it's okay. I do get a lot of criticism for not having 'slick' videos with great lighting and editing but... given I'm doing it myself I'm okay with that... for me it's about the exchange of ideas. Some you'll like, some you won't, some you'll see how you can twist it or build on it to make it your own... but... hopefully... there's a thread of inspiration running through there for you each time. There's really two different focuses to a RU-vid channel... to make money or to share knowledge/information. My focus is on the latter... with the hope that down the road it translates into a bigger contribution toward the shop rent (wouldn't that be nice!!) but... it's about the sharing and exchange of information that is at the heart of my channel. It's never going to be perfect... and I'm okay with that. My email buzzes daily with 3 or 4 content creators offering me advice (for a large fee) for making my channel better... and to make more $$.. I'm deleting them because their advice is to copy those doing what you described... for quick views and quick cash. I like money as much as the next guy/gal but... not at any cost.
I thought about this more after my quick response... i actually prefer applying the glitter to the still wet ink. The colours of the two combine to create more interesting colour effects. The bronze over orange looks different than over purple (etc.) and you tend to get a little more intense colour reactions. this is the method I use in my classes. If there are perhaps 'spaces' left over that you can't seem to get the glitter or ink to reach then we'll maybe use a spray adhesive to 'finish'... if you want the ball fully inked and glittered. Some like them left with the swirls and open spaces for contrast.
Another great idea Cindy ❤ love unique pcs it turned out great. I am going to go through my stash tomorrow and see what I can come up with. I made a snowman last year from a couple of glass round tea light holders and a glass toothpick holder that is in the shape of a top hat. 💐💐💐
I didn't have little lights at the shop at the time but... have tried it with them since. It really looks great with them. I love the idea of the copper and think a lot of the old tarnished silver plated pieces would also make for a cool vintage look.
Pretty piece and a great way to reuse dishes that sit on thrift store shelves and collect dust. I think the bottom two pieces look like a mushroom. So cool. TFS 😊
I know... they really do make a difference! I used the glass in keeping with the piece to keep the translucency - I plan to add some little string lights for the evening.... but you can vary the spacers depending upon the overall look. I think they are needed to separate the bowls and create more of a 'branches' look!
I am making myself a flowerpot halloween costume My fingers are burnt to a crisp. This is not a good time for me to have my fingerprints taken. My flowers are absolutely gorgeous. Thank you for your inspiration
Margaret... it's the perfect recipe for the moulds... keeps all the great details. It's also a perfect activity for the grandkids... using the dough just like the clay... little hands can manage it just fine!!
Hi Cindy💐 absolutely brilliant and I would be doing a lot of snapping !!! Right into my mouth 😂 just got back from a trip to Greece and picked up a souvenir I didn’t want ! Pneumonia!!! Your videos are a great booster and love your down to earth attitude and sense of humor 🥳🥳🥳 Thank you 💐💐💐
Oh my goodness Margaret... Pneumonia???!!! Not the best end to a vacation! Hope it didn't impact a lot of your trip though... Greece is so lovely! Hmmm... maybe you need a little chocolate to brighten your day a little!!
The Candy Melts are a more inexpensive way to go... and you can get them in multiple colours... but... I weighed that against doing them in Belgian Chocolate... meaning I'd have Belgian Chocolate in the shop... and there was no contest!! If I'm going to get a headache from eating sugar then it better be GOOD sugar!!! (I may have 'snacked' a little in between takes... and it was worth it!!
@@QueenBeeCreations Belgium chocolate is the best and definitely worth the price !! We lived in Holland for 5 years on the border of Germany and Belgium so loved all the goodies including the great bakeries.
Love it Cindy! Exactly why I bought the Santa mould. I’m going to play with making them using my peppermint bark recipe. Just wondering if the moulds can go in the oven….I have some silicone cookware that can… thanks for the tips! And you are delightful when you get to play with chocolate!😊
I love the sugar cookie recipe too! It’s perfect for making these! It's important that the cookie recipe doesn't spread and ruin all the fabulous details. These chocolates disappeared FAST!
I believe that some people have found a way… you have to specially treat and seal the canvas first in order to get the inks to move properly. Im not sure off the top of my head what it is that they use… haven’t experimented with that.
Fabulous one Cindy! I think you are right about becoming addictive! I was thinking as you were assembling that you could make 4 of each size and make it a three dimensional tree. Also want to try upsizing maintaining the size ratios. Thanks for all the inspiration!
I definitely think there is lots of room to 'play' with this one... both in terms of size, embellishments etc. Alternating colours would be cool, metallics versus coloured... have fun with it Wendy!
One of those things that's good to know how to make... whether as a single little gift, to trim a tree or top a present. You can adjust the measurements to make them any size you'd like!
The lamp was the perfect example of the magic of paint!! I saw people looking at it in the thrift store for the milk glass but putting it down and I couldn't snatch it up fast enough!
Great projects Cindy! Was thinking about you this weekend while at a flea market… I would see an item and think, now what would Cindy do with this!🙃. Thanks for all the teaching!
It's funny sometimes which colours really work with one another or resonate with people... some of my favourite balls have been with the browns and mustard yellows!
Thank you Lynnette - they really are beautiful. You can check out a couple of other versions I did on the channel... with the alcohol ink and glitter or even with a mirror finish...
Mattie: I have a couple of different ornaments done with alcohol ink (you can search for them on the channel)... I think the ones last year were with glitter, previously I did alcohol ink with Acrylics, and a version of the alcohol inks with a mirror effects finish inside. If you're talking about in-store classes... yes... the version with glitter is the first class of November...
The paint I used (Fusion) self seals so they went on over a sealed surface. Burnish as usual though they took a little more than 'regular' ones. Partly because there were a lot of little fine details to make sure transferred and also because it's a little more challenging to 'see' what has released. I did seal over top of them with a regular topcoat.
