Welcome to Slow Unpacking. Magic the Gathering is a great game with greater Lore. Still a lot of Lore is lost when we don't take the time to look at the cards.
Lets change that with Slow Unpacking.

I built mothman and he is a blast to play. I leaned more into a diverse mix of proliferation with counter synergy like goldberry, raul, hardened scales, bred for the hunt with a tiny splash of infect as a win con. Like venerated rotpriest blighted agent to help with proliferation
@@SlowUnpacking so far its between adding a few mill cards such as mesmeric orb to help mothman go tall instead of wide and a surge foil auton soldier I pulled from the dr who set which has let me pull a lot of shinanigans!!!
I love the theft cycle of cards for this alchemy set. I so so SOOOO BADLY wish they were in paper to buff up some theft strats -- the mind-games and the power of heist is so strong!
It is really awesome, I think the problem with heist is that after every heist you'd have to shuffle the deck you steal from. So that's a little hard to do and stealing from the top of a library would be too strong. How would you design heist in paper?
Did you know that there are 10 cards named Valakut in mtg? Haha, could be awakening, could be exploration here. But the pick I like most is the molten pinnacle. Expensive one though, which one did you mean?
Some picks are... questionable..? I mean, a Defiler in an instant/sorcery deck..? And Ojer Axonil that will screw your card draw on your commander..? The other suggestions are just fine, but those two are literally anti-synergistic
Defiler I put in for the pinging effect, you still have a bunch of red permanents entering too. But I think goblin bombardment could go there as a better way to care about your creatures as a nice finisher instead of incremental value. Ojer Axonil will be anti synergy when you have your commander out, but you will not always have it out. So it's a nice replacement in the meantime I'd say. It's also recursive so at that point it feels like a new commander doesn't it?
Yes and no! I've thought about cards like impact tremors, which wouldn't be the best because of the low creature count. In a spell slinger deck I also noted that your creatures are too valuable to sack. But I have to make an exception for goblin bombardement, it's too good of a finisher. Thanks!
wouldnt galvanic still work because of how its worded? even if you cast it at sorcery speed, you can still cast something else after it resolves right?
Yeah that's true with most copy spells, but as Waldo points out Galvanic Iteration would work. It says 'when you cast your next instant or sorcery spell this turn, copy that spell. You may choose new targets for the copy'. That means that Galvanic iteration doesn't need a target.
Yeah, there have been so many interesting cards to build around. Obeka is just very new as well with her upkeep doubling mechanic and her combat style. I will definetely feature her in my 10 most interesting commanders from this set!
It did inspire me too, but this video was because of the dnd magic set haha. I would be open to making new dnd videos, what subject would you like to see?
@@SlowUnpacking I’ve been watching all the lore vids since I’m completely new to the entire scene. I had no idea how rich the world and lore are and very much appreciate the great work ya’ll are doing 🤘
You said during the video that the Salasnyans are getting closer to the Golgari but at the end of the video you are hinting they might transform into Naya while I was expecting it to be Abzan. Did I misunderstand something?
No, both of these things are true I think. But for different reasons. The Selesnyans have always been like the Golgari in a way. But just because they both don't mind dying. Both have different reasons for it, but both also see it as a natural thing. The Selesnyans are becoming more and more Naya because of their cards in Karlov Manor. You can see it in worldsoul's anger for example. Which is a gruul card featuring trostani. Or look at Voja's Naya card for example. I hope this explains my view. I will make a video on all the guild relations later on.
I feel like all the guilds brainwash their members. In the recent story, Aurelia was going to declare war on the Rakdos for something fairly minor when you think about all the lives that would have been lost in that conflict. They all do it.
Yes in a way! And the Dimir do so pretty heavily as well. But the Conclave really needs you to discard you consciousness so that you can live for mat'selesnya. You should only follow the song if you're a selesnyan.
@@SlowUnpacking yeah all the guilds basically use the talents of their members to further the objectives of the guilds and intermingling is mostly frowned upon except in the marketplace.
Round of applause indeed 👏👏👏 Just the second video of the series and the order of the format is already off the table - you truly proved you understood the Rakdos etiquette 😂
Of course! As a law abiding law decliner, I am very happy to not follow the rules set up by the Boros. I wonder what the Azorius will do. But that's for later and I don't do later.
Kos will get at least 1 card in the upcoming set. His art has been released! But if you had to choose who would be alive, would you pick Elspeth or Agrus?
That would be sick. But tbh I am more interested in the potential new god on Theros that might be formed in her image. Or maybe she ascends herself, i would love both. Planned to write a fanfic about the second scenario.@@SlowUnpacking
You might want to add more of the lore from the original three sets and the surrounding events, their role in society, and in the guildpact.. From the original novels, the average ravinican seems to encounter them more acting as police than as an army. For instance, at the end of the novels Argus could arrest that big deal villain only because the magic of the guildpact came into play when her performed his role as a Bros officer of the law. Positive vibing Sloth chillin on you channel page is solidly amusing
I did read the ravnica novels where Kos has a major role for my preparation for these videos. Though the books go so in depth that I had to choose which information to bring up and I think that guildpact part and the workings of it will be very interesting for the azorius and rakdos videos. The sloth definitely cheers me up everytime I see it.
Awesome video, it is always amazing to see the borors get the respect they deserve and to not be the "boring fighting guild". There is so much in their colour combination and story and its awesome how you portrayed it.
I‘m planning a DnD campaign on Ravnica and this helps immensely in understanding the guilds better beyond the surface level! Two of my players chose Rakdos as their guild so I would love to learn more about them. I was wondering if there is more to them beyond violence, torture, chaos and entertainment. Do they have any goals beyond that? The only ‚good’ thing they have done for Ravnica that I‘m aware of is Rakdos helping in the fight against Bolas.
Hey Candela, awesome that this video helped plan your next campaign! It's decided then, that I will make the Rakdos video next! Because I can tell you already that the Rakdos are not just chaotic entertainers. They are actually often bouncers and bodyguards as well. They run bathouses, tattoo shops and pubs too. But I'll do more research first of course.
It's rakdos! I gave you a Shout out for the suggestion, but if you don't want that I'll remove it! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SOrsGmtdW9A.html
@@SlowUnpacking Haha nice! well eat some kebab and if youre into nightclubs berlin is like heaven. You've prolly been to all the sightseeing places already like Brandenburger Tor and all that so just have a great time. Oh and you have to check out the "Weihnachtsmarkt" christmas market there are a couple i know one is at the Kollwitzplatz that gets high praise. Enjoy your stay and take care!
This comment got restricted for having the word nightclub in it and I didn't see it haha. But we went to see the basic places indeed and have seen the christmas markets and some nightclubs :). Plus I think I have found my favorite breakfast spot. It's called the visit. Delicious. House of small wonders is also great!
Ive really enjoyed how they tied the misc lore into these cards, some of these elves can get to ridiculously high stats off stacking the scrying effects. Hoping to build this into a commander deck in the near future now that more of the singles are becoming reasonably priced.
